Yea, I actually search for about 4 months for the right one. Considered getting a sport 4x4 but wasnt really in a big rush, which is why I decided to wait until the 2017s started rolling out.

    So regarding the lift.

    Im down to 2 configs/ideas.

    1. Toytec Boss Suspension System
      • Front Coilovers, no reservoir
      • Rear AAL 2"
      • Add on options
        • Rear Reservoir + $180
        • Include UCA (TC or LR) - difference of $200
      • Total cost: $2069 Max
    2. Icon Stage 2 2.5
      • Front Coilovers, no reservoir
      • Rear shocks w/ reservoir
      • Real AAL 1.5'
      • Add on options
        • None
      • Total cost: $1944.80
The biggest issue I am struggling with is value vs quality. I have seen some good reviews of Boss, although I have never heard of the brand. I have had Toytec stuff before and its been great. With the Boss setup I can get UCAs, rear shock reservoirs and the right AAL size I want. But Icon I can get quality and a well known and named brand, but get less for my money.

Few follow up questions for the masses:

Regarding UCAs and this setup: Are UCAs required immediately? Can these be added later? I dont want to damage the stock UCAs, but if it can wait a few months that would factor in

Regarding Boss: Whats everyone's opinion of Boss? Again I have never heard of them, but read some decent reviews, and I trust Toytec from previous experience.

Regarding shock reservoirs: Am I correct that external reservoir systems are really only needed for higher speed desert running? With the reservoirs needed for extra nitrogen/oil as heat increases in the main shock chamber? For slower off roading, weekend adventuring etc, the added cost of the extra reservoir isn't necessarily needed?

I suggest you talk to Marie from @HeadStrong Off-Road she can answer all your questions and will give you a great deal on suspension parts.

Boss is a pretty good brand. I have a buddy running it on his 4runner and he likes it. For UCAs, it depends on the amount of lift you're aiming for. anything above 2.5" it starts to get iffy if you need them. Pretty much if your tech can't get the proper alignment, you need them. If I cold afford some, I'd get them just because you get better alignment numbers, as well (I think) more droop out of your suspension.

You are correct in your thinking on reservoirs. My understanding is they are only there for increased performance in cooling the shock oil, in high stress situations i.e. desert racing, like you mentioned. Aside from looking bad ass, for us low speed guys they don't offer any performance benefit that I know of.

Thanks for the info. So you are running stock UCAs with your lift? If so how are they doing?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Stock height with stock size tires it is for you.
