I've been searching through the forum and online and I've yet to find a definitive answer.

    My Tacoma takes 265 65 17 tires.

Could I _safely_ use 265 75 16 tires for winter tires?

I've compared the size differences on some websites that calculate sizing and the difference seems very minimal (to me, a non-expert).

I've found a used winter set in this size with rims and I'm hoping these would fit.

    Thanks!

Those should be fine. 265/70/16 is a stock size for trucks that come with 16's. 265/75/16 is a one size up that many people go with and have zero problems.

    Thanks.

Interestingly enough, when I plugged the numbers into the website for my wife's car and her snow tires (17" summer and 16" winter done by a tire dealer) the differences were about the same as the sizes I listed above.

I'm running OEM size (P265/70R16) for winter and one size up (LT265/75R16) for summer. Make sure the tires aren't old. Lots of people buy sets of winters not realizing the tread compound is really only good for 5 years.

Also P metric tires are preferred to LT tires for winter performance.

P-metric tires give a more pleasant ride, but LT tires of the same model and size usually have deeper tread depth, but they are also heavier.

Plugging your #s in, the % of difference is about the same as mine except for the sidewall height.

This size in winter tires add one more inch of sidewall height.

These are Nokian LT winter tires I'm considering. Supposedly used one year.

Yea good for snow, so LT would be best for rural/country and offroad, and a softer P would be more of a city tire, I worry about ice, snow is what the right pedal is for! :mudding:

^In my opinion it's just the opposite: ice will give shitty traction regardless; even the best porous-compound tires (XIce2, Blizzak) give only incremental benefits. Meanwhile, in deep snow, you need a tire like Goodyear Duratrac to churn through the snow.

Seems like it was all a moot point (tho appreciate the advice from everyone).

Talked to the guy selling them, who sounded about 20, and I just didn't get an honest, straight up vibe from him in regards to the age and usage of the tires.

The tires are about an hour away from where I have to drive today but I'm not even going to go look at them.
