24 bucks for the minimal plan. Totally worth it in my opinion if you go out enough.

That's not bad! @Gply you could also look into the Iridium Go, I think the min there is $50 a month but you get voice as well.

most of the world adventure travelers I know carry a SPOT. you can't send custom text messages, but your location is plotted on a web map your friends and spouses can follow, and you can send a handful of predetermined messages, one of which is SOS. these things last 24 months on a set of batteries on standby, or 50+ days if you send a location an hour 24 hrs/day...
    http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=100

the delorme things EAT batteries, so you constantly have to keep them charged, and they depend on a smartphone for half their functionality so thats MORE things to keep charged.

Mine lasted 4 days backpacking, plotting every 10 minutes and turned off at night. I'd say most people have access to charge them if need be as well.

Plus they were bought out by Garmin, so cool stuff is to come in presume.

Here's the info on the Go.

    https://www.iridium.com/products/details/iridiumgo

SPOT I think uses Globalstar which isn't as strong a network as Iridium. I've tried them all and had best results with Iridum.

Keep in mind this level of peace of mind is for emergencies so you want it to work when you need it.

Yea you win. Silly of me to think that calling you out would render any results. However, last time Jason called you out, you were quiet for a week. Small victory for us in the NorCal thread

It's 3AM, if it's not the baby waking me up in the middle of the night it's the pets.

Molle just barked, jumped her hallway gate, knocked over a mirror, woke up the baby and I think it was all because she was checking the cat door because our cat was coming inside.

30 min cleaning up the mess and now can't sleep because of the adrenaline from thinking someone was breaking in. Sleep, where hath you gone? Have you forsaken me forever!

Technically 6:30AM is after 5PM from the previous day right?

I'll be out quick now that the baby is asleep, but any excuse to drink a beer is GTG in my book!

I love the looks you get when you walk up to the register at 630 am with a 12 pack of beer. worked graveyard for 4 yrs when my son was born. saved money on day care that way. had zero friends other then work. brought a hole to meaning to day drinking. Man I hated those hrs. 5pm to whenever we got done and most days that was 6am and mandatory Fridays a 6th day unless upper seniority bummed you off the list. Average work week was 60hrs.after being there 3 yrs. first yr was 70 hr work weeks being low man on the pole.
