I have a Memphis 10 inch sub in an enclosed box running with a Kenwood amp. It misses beats on occasionally. I don't know a thing about car audio at all. A shop installed this for me about 5 years ago. Just curious as to where to start. I have multimeter tool and such just looking for some input.

if you are jamming it then you could be putting your amp into protection mode. If you notice the subs not playing try turning it down a bit and see if the notes still miss.

Take pictures of your amp settings and try to get a video of your subs missing the notes.

Yeah thats why i asked for pictures of the amp settings. Curious to see where they are.

I can help him set the gains properly with the multimeter if they look wack

While you're checking things, have a look at your power connections & grounds on both ends. And the connections to the subwoofer. Something may have just worked free over time & you're asking more from a poor connection than it can provide.

Caps are pretty much snake oil. Caps discharge too quickly to be of much use beyond a fraction of a second where music is concerned. If it's a question of too little power, a stronger or additional battery is the answer.

Finally got around to taking a photo. Actually my amp is a street edge .....Cheap shit I assume. I turned the gain down a bit and tightened all connections. After turning down....It doesn't miss anymore however not much bass at all even with my subwoofer level on the radio set to 9.

Bridge it into Mono. Move the orange wire to the + on the outer terminal. Also be sure your Filter switch is in the LPF position, and turn it up to about 150-200 hz

Turn the gain all the way down and work your way up until you hear distortion, then back it off about 10%. That's what I do anyway :)

Edit: Also, set the volume on yourr head unit to 3/4 when peaking your gain.

If you can touch it with your hand and it doesn't burn you, then it's probably not getting too hot.

Any louder now that you have it brridged into mono? It should be twice as loud

Make sure its wired to the ohm rating you need for bridged operation.

Good point. Most amps have will tolerate a lower impedance with a stereo load than they will a bridged load. And turn that bass boost OFF!
