We're thinking about getting a travel trailer to tow with our 2016 Tacoma. We have a V6 2WD with the towing package. We're looking at a 23' (27' when adding tongue length) Jayco at a weight of 4370. With the added weight distribution hitch would this be a good size for this truck to tow?

    What model Jayco?

I tow a Jayco X213 with my truck with a 10k lb WD hitch. The transmission gets a little warm when pulling grades in the Sierras and Cascades (I've seen temps just over 240). This may not be an issue with the new transmission in the 2016 or if you have a manual but its something you'll definitely want to watch if you have an automatic.

Thanks stickyTaco. How much does you X213 weigh? Since we're newbies at towing we probably won't be going up any mountain passes for a bit, but we will surely keep an eye on the transmission temp as we tow.

The dry weight is 4,500 and max weight loaded is 5,500. Check your owners manual for recommendations regarding what gear to be in when towing.

You'll also want a brake controller and with that and the WD hitch you should be all set.

I tow a trailer with a 3300 dry weight and 4500 max weight. the Tacoma itself has such a low payload weight that I would rather stay below 5000 lbs total.count 10 % max as your tongue weight, thats 500 lbs which leaves only 500 lbs left for the trucks payload,(you and gear) .you have to watch all your numbers.I would do it with a manual transmission but that's 35 years of towing.new to towing.I would want a little friendlier numbers.

I have a2013 double cab. I tow a 20 ft Wilderness trailer. Dry wt 4100 lbs. Towing wt 5200 lbs Just got back from a 3 mo. fishing trip to the Sierras. This is my 3rd such trip. I am looking at getting a ford or chevy and getting rid of the Tacoma. Love the truck but it is way underpowered. Dont know why Toyota dosnt improve the power because trucks are used for towing. The Ford F150 can be had with a 3.5 V6 with 365 hp. Also a 2.7 V6 with 300 plus hp. Think twice if you are considering towing anything heavy with a Tacoma. Just my 2c.
