That's my philosophy as well. Modern vehicles just have too much crap going on. Most of the stuff they pack in there is expensive, never gets used, and takes up space. This is what I liked about my base model 89 4Runner.

That cable protector is pretty cheap so am probably just going to buy it as soon as I can get a look at my drive shaft tunnel and be sure there some likely bolt holes for it. At this point I really need to get my hands on a parts truck so I can test fit all of this, from dash to back seat, hands on. Just with job and family this can't be a priority.

It does not appear there are bolt points ahead of the V6 auto shifter that would take the 4cyl shifter or receive the V6 shifter moved forward. It does appear there are bolt points for the cable protector, though they may also/only be for the console box. But, it occurs to me the drive tunnel probably has a cover welded over it that adds the correct bolt holes for the model. Not interested in changing that.

If only we could see the single cab deck without the carpet. Anybody have pics. I'm sure there are folks that changed the bench seat to single that took pics for the hidden seat bolt holes...

I have been looking but nothing usable so far. And since had one post here saying "don't ask to see mine" (why bother posting that?) I felt I would reach beyond this BB.

Saw that one, close, but he never took out the carpet that SC has going over the hump so can't really see the metal. I should get that carpet! Since I have money coming out of my butt. ;)

Since this was out, and since I'm experimenting, left the front console out too when I found it also had just trash in it. Also roomier, but the cupholder needs to come back. This will likely return.

Lemme get this straight, you had a hard time fitting a toolbox that fits between your front seat into your DOUBLE CAB, PICK UP TRUCK with the centre console installed?!?

Don't overthink it ... you try to fit a tool box in a doublecab pickup ... it's not easy ... :D

Because it is same console that comes in all the AC & DC trucks except for shifter plate and it is 5 spd so it wouldn't be same setup for auto shifter??????????? That'd be why...........

I'm wondering why you couldn't just use a single cab auto console. Maybe I missed the reasons to not do that back somewhere.

This is like someone doing a "rear seat delete" on a DD. Lol i remember all the cars back in highschool with no back seats for that 40lb weight savings....

The reason I'm interested is to retrofit a radio console where the original space wasting console is and not have a butchered console like I've seen others on here have done. The OP has stated his reasons in the 1st post.
