I have the same one, and I can only get it to pick up a signal for about 300 feet. I'm going to be installing an external antenna, and hooking it to that to see if it gets any better.

Have you guys seen this ride happening this weekend in Talladega National Forest? It's a ride to support ALS research. Looks pretty fun. I'm thinking of going but not sure I want to go by myself lol.

As a handheld, I've found it good only to spot somebody up an obstacle or within close range as you've said. In the truck, I've got it hooked up to a 5' Firestik and get good range. My SWR readings are telling me my antenna is too long (already adjusted all the way down) but the readings are all acceptable so I'm not too worried about it as I've not had any issues. I just try to keep everybody in the lower channels. :D

Oh nice. I don't have any camping stuff yet, but was thinking of sleeping in my truck. I fit perfectly in the back seat lying across so I could fold down the back seats and sleep on a yoga mat with a sleeping bag.

Shorten your coax cable and that will help your SWR readings.

There's not much excess other than 6-8" of the 18' cable. For what I use it for, I'm not out of range in the upper channels. Its like a .2 or .3 difference from 1 to 40.

After reading all of this I just have one thing to say. I hate you ALL!!! While yall are planning riding one the places I have always wanted to go....I will be planning/possibly be getting married around that same time. The more I am on this site the more and more being a single hobbit sounds much cheaper and doesn't get in the way of EVERYTHING....especially a dream ride like this. So again with all that said, I hate you ALL and I will not take that back!!! Continue pissing me off! Good day!

I saw that about a week ago. It was posted in the alabama thread I believe. Unfortunately, I have prior obligations this coming weekend.

I dunno if any of you 2016 peoples want armor for this trip but I'm selling my pelfreybilt front bumper and rear high clearance since I'm in the panhandle and will be traveling with y'all, I figured I'd give you guys first shots at it.

Oh, is anyone going to overland expo?

I think I'm definitely gonna go. Talked to a group who is out of Tennessee that I've been trying to meet up with and they are going. Idk if I'll stay the night in Saturday but I'll definitely be checking out the trails. Hopefully I'll be okay being stock.

Well shit haha. I'm all set to do all my wheeling on Friday but I will stay in the area if enough people from here want to meet up I'll do the trails all over again. I know @LadyRed will be there Saturday.

Supposed to be a low of 66 Friday night so I should be able to sleep okay. I really just NEED to get the hell out of Mobile for a little while plus I want to stretch out new suspension and try out my new RTT.

Have you ever been there before? I have not and I think @LadyRed hasn't either so it'll be good that I do some exploring on Friday.
