    It's very important to keep the muscles around the shoulders ball/socket strong, as when they weaken your not going to be aligned and after awhile you can get an impingement. Doing those exercises before doing upper body weights can help you warm up, which is important too. Doing your upper body work correctly makes all the different, as does avoiding certain movements that will cause it to get impinged.

    I guess this explains the guys in the gym doing the band exercises for the shoulders?

    Yeah, with weights you're working with gravity, but with bands you have a constant force and is easier to adjust the resistance. It's easier to get the correct form to get the results, which will strengthen those muscles. Those muscles require relatively low resistance to strengthen the small ball/socket alignment muscles.

    Sorry about your torn rotator cuff, but it sounds like you did everything right to recover.

    Thanks bud. Been lifting for about 25 years now.....I'm 45. I don't do the real heavy stuff like I used to. Over the years I've found that strict form, pause reps, negatives and higher reps work just as good as powerlifting for results with the body. And there are less injuries.

    This video shows some of the band exercises I do in the gym, for people who have never heard of this condition. There is one video on Youtube which is better, but it's also 1 1/2 hours. This video is right to the point and just shows the exercises.

    I lost 30lbs after shoulder surgery in 2 months:spy::spy:

    But seriously not worth it. I've felt like absolute shit until recently.

    :thumbsup: I try to hang with them at the gym but my days of 500+lb deadlifts & 4 plate benches are long gone. I really do believe that weight lifting is the fountain of youth though. People quite often are amazed by my age. They think I'm in my younger 30's.....the grey in my beard gives it away.

    Yeah, well said when I workout everything in my life is easier. I eat better, sleep better, and my mental outlook on life is like night and day + it keeps me out of trouble too. :D

    Now we're talking, can we move this thread under 3rd gen to make it more interesting?

    I need to work on my cardio, coupled with some light weight high repetition workouts, with a couple of short sessions per week of heavier lifting....and more protein in my diet....glad to stumble on this thread.....
