They reviewed the 4 cylinder I would imagine so. They actually kind of liked the 6 cyl.

This is the second toyota truck I've owned and I love it are their things on it I don't like Yes, but thats life! And that's my rant!!

Missed that review, but just read it. Playing with the Toyota 2017 Build It, I come up with a $7,000 difference between 4 and 6 cylinder engines. The 6 requires the SR5 model, rather than the SR. I am not sure whether the tow package is a mandatory option with the 6 because the site was acting up. Also, the reviews all seem to be fixated on crew cabs. I bought a 2014 regular cab because I heard they were going to be discontinued. This is as much truck as I need.

    None...yet!
Well all that tells me is that the Tacoma is a great truck. If CR didn't like it, it must be great!

Seriously, I bought a Tacoma because I've had three other Toyota trucks, 1989 pickup, 1993 and 2003 Taco. I'd trade all the Taco's for the 1989 if they still made them like that. CR would HATE the 1989.

If I could get a 2.5L Turbo diesel Hilux with the taco body, I'd be in Toyota truck heaven... But I'll settle for my 2016 Tacoma.

I used to teach a class in logic to high school students and one of the fun things we did was debate whether car racing was a sport. It was always good for some very good screaming and name calling. The objective of the lesson was to demonstrate that it is pointless to debate something like this unless the two parties agree on the definition of what constitutes a sport. Consumer Reports has defined a set of criteria for evaluation and come to a conclusion. People here then use their own set of criteria and come to a different conclusion. Both can be perfectly valid arguments. CR just cares about very different things than you do. Don't take it personally.

Most review sites rate vehicles best that have car like manners. I bet they would rate a new 70 series lc as a terrible vehicle. Take it with a grain of salt.

Of course car racing is a sport. A sport is anything that has a set of rules that define a winner, versus a competition that has judges involved. I can tell you wins a car race, but I can't tell you who won on the balance beam.

By your definition checkers is a sport. Heck, monopoly or any other board game is a sport. One of my old students claimed that a sport had to involve a ball (soccer player). :)

    sport
    spôrt/
    noun
    1. 1.
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

According to this definition if you play checkers while running in place you are actually playing a sport. Ha

CR is the printed version of an 'Internet Expert', nobody crowned them the definitive authority on anything except themselves last I checked. If you like your Tacoma it's very likely you are not lucky that you got a good one but you just understand what the vehicle is and isn't and made your choice. If you have problems with your Tacoma maybe your really do have problems or maybe you didn't realize you had a problem until you read about it.

So if it is for money and not entertainment it isn't a sport? Lets keep this going
Just because Merriam Webster says so doesn't make it so. We have to actually AGREE on the definition before we can start the debate :) Still not sure about car racing because there is no ball :)

Well car racing does involve ball bearings. Joke

I get the feeling trying to define this will be like trying to define what is art. Impossible.

That's a good one. :) When my soccer player tried to tell me that track and field wasn't a sport because there was no ball I pointed out the shot put (I was the track coach).

First time posting…. Please to run me out because of my very long book like post.
Haha! I have owned four Tacoma pickups a '97, '00, '01, and '03 my last Tacoma trade up came to an end after the 2nd generation Taco came out. The exterior cab section did not sit well with me, in my own opinion the exterior cab section of the Taco look to much like the Dodge Durango cab section of that time. I figured I would not buy another Tacoma till they redesign the cab. The disappointing thing about the 3rd generation redesign is not that I had to wait 10 yrs to see it, but that the redesign did little to nothing to address the exterior cab section. I see the changes to the front and rear quarter panels. I can also see the changes to the front and rear end of the Tacoma, but the changes make the Tacoma seem like it had little to no redesign, because they pretty much left the cab looking the same way. Oh well...

I still own my 2003 Tacoma, which I'm always being asked if I'm willing to sell or trade. No I will not sell nor trade my Tacoma, because they don't make that design anymore… LOL! I'm just going to pass it down to my 17 year old nephew. Anyways since my last Tacoma I've also have owned a 2004 Jeep Rubicon which was later traded in for a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited which I still own and enjoy very much because of its off-road capabilities… both my jeeps had been lifted and had minor modifications.
I would never trade or give up my current Jeep unless it's to one of my sons.
Let me tell you guys something. JEEP WRANGLERS have always been rated as one of the worst vehicles on the road because of the poor gas mileage, rough ride, poor air dynamics, noise when been driven and the list goes on. Trust me there is no better feeling or smile than that of a Wrangler owner WHEN he/she used the Jeep in the way it was meant to be used.
With that being said, and after seeing that there were no major changes done to the Tacoma… I'm giving up on my hold-out on purchasing a Tacoma. I am currently looking to get myself a 2017 4Dr TRD-offroad 4X4 Tacoma. I went out and test drove the TRD-offroad 4X4 on some light/medium off-road terrain and let me tell you, I totally enjoyed they way the Tacoma handled the terrain… it's not a Wrangler but I can see how the TRD-offroad Taco can be as fun to own if used as it was meant from time to time. The crawling mode was pretty noisy but pretty fun. The sales guy was impressed with the Tacoma's capabilities he had gone to some training, but said he learn some new things about the features out there. I almost felt like the salesman out on the test drive.
I'm sold on buying a 2017 TRD-offroad 4x4 Taco, wish me luck on getting one at the price that I'm wanting to pay.
Consumer Report can rate the Wrangler as the worst vehicle on the road, and I will rate it as the most fun and enjoyable vehicle on the road. Consumer Report can do the something to the Tacoma, I'm calling the CR rating BS.
It's not a disappointing year, IMO that was back in 2005, but what I've come to learn is anytime is a good time to buy a Tacoma as long as you learn to have fun with it.
By the way they are only getting pricier as the years go by.

I haven't read the CR review of the Tacoma. I quit reading their reviews of trucks years ago, when It became very clear that they had no idea what a pickup was for.
