    5vz-fe. Manual.

New spark plugs and wires. Fuel pump. Air filter.

Is it normal for these trucks to feel weak accelerating? After i get to 2nd it feels normal to me. 1st just seems a little abnormally weak.

If not, what else should i check? I have a obd reader that shows me live data but i havent learned how to use it entirely yet.

What is your gear ratio? My truck is terribly slow in 1st because it has 4.10 gearing. It sounds normal to me.

Acceleration or speed? I can get to 15 mph fast, but I can't drive very fast at all in 1st.

Coming out of the hole at 600 rpm is low on the power band but normal, you don't wanna burn up the clutch. Going into second from first is usually higher rpm as well as already moving, no dead weight. I think you're normal OP.

Mine is supercharged and it feels really weak in 1st. Just the nature of these trucks. Once I hit 3rd though it really takes off. I always figured it had to do with how much low-end torque this engine has, puts you back in your seat in first gear but hardly goes anywhere lol.

    All stock.
I used to drive a 1986 Chev S-10 with anemic 2.8 V6. First gear was very well proportioned to the other four gears, from a dead stop even fully loaded and towing something. That engine might have been only 140 h.p. but was more than adequate and first gear had a lot more “breath” than the Taco. I feel like that old 5-spd tranny in this p.u. would be killer.

They obviously haven’t changed much since your model as mine is a 2022.
Might just be something to get used to I suppose. I didn’t buy it for drag racing!

The 3.4s power band is pretty high up there in the rpm range so that's what you are feeling. It weirded me out coming from 4.0 powered stick shift jeeps when I first got my Tacoma.

yeah peak HP and torque comes in at well over 3k RPM on the 3.4l, 4800/3600 rpm respectively iirc

HP & TQ don't really start to kick in until the ECU comes out of closed loop. Under normal acceleration, 50-70% throttle say, there is a delay for this to occur. A little sooner at WOT.

It is by design for fuel mileage that peak hp & tq don't occur until late.
