I'm looking at installing this exact unit in the near future. You said you "hooked an old iphone up to it" to get navigation. How'd you do that? Is that iphone activated with a phone carrier?

I REALLY want this head unit, but I'm an Android user, and I also use Waze a lot, but I haven't found a way to install/use Waze on this unit (and I don't want to have to look at the cheap Chinese units in order to gain that functionality).

Yep i used an Iphone 5 i had from when i was on verizon. You dont need service on the phone. but you will need wifi to download the apps (so download them at home)

Download Navmii on your iphone. go through the settings and download the state maps you want.
    Turn your location services on.
Then when you connect it to the stereo it recognizes it as an iphone with apps
click on the maps and it will ask you to make sure you loaded the app on your iphone.

Then it uses the GPS signal from your phone and the downloaded map to navigate. You can even get POI downloaded on it too

waze is no longer supported unfortunately..

Looking forward to your pics. I've had this same unit in my cart with Caraudiogiants for a week now while I plan out my system. Did you get a Metra or Schose kit? I also have that Axxess steering wheel interface in my cart. It seems to be a nice value bang for the buck unit...I don't think I need HD radio that the 5800 one has for the price bump.

How was your ordering experience with Caraudiogiants?

    Thanks.

It was a good experience I received it in a little over a week but it could of got here faster. Just got delayed with all the flooding down here in louisiana. I ordered the Metra kit from Crutchfield with the wiring harness for about $36 and that came in pretty quick too. The Metra kit didn't fit that great through so I put back the old metra kit that was on there....I know, same kit but one fits better. And the one that fit better happen to be the old scratched up one. Oh well.

I did order the steering wheel harness for $7 from Crutchfield but removed it after realizing I needed the axxess thing and I didn't want to pay that much for it since I rarely use the steering control.

I did have trouble with the deck blowing out my rear speakers but it was probably because they were old, but again Oh well lol at least now I got a bit of an upgrade in the back.

Looks nice, thanks for the pics. I know you just installed it but is there any thing you wish the unit had or pretty happy with it so far?

It has everything I wanted. I researched it pretty in depth for about a week before buying. There are some great YouTube videos on it if you search it. I'm happy with it since my last head unit was a POS

I just took out my Pioneer BHS3500 out of my 2007 tacoma (traded it in). I have the mod kit including the parking break bypass, the steerwheel control adapter and xm radio adapter. I haven't decided if I want to install it in the 2013 as the 2013 decks doesn't seem to bad. You can colour match the deck to the vehicle. I didn't want the mechanical face which is why I went with it.

Looks nice. Does that unit have the ability to do any sort of navigation (either built in, or through an iPhone)?

IT does have appradio support but needs a software upgrade to run on the iphone5. I used to have a 4 with it and it worked quite well. There was a number of apps that would work with the radio (GPS through iphone, etc). I found it worked great, but I didn't use the nav very much in the end, because in most cases it was easier to ask Siri and recieve the turn by turn instructions over bluetooth.
