    I was.

Here is the story. Kinda long.

Lindsay and I were camping in the grand canyon. Getting to our campsite was a chore. Not a hard road for the most part, but about 50 miles of dirt. Some of it was rocky and had a big rut so you had to go slow, but no risk of damage.

Anyway, we get to our spot without seeing a soul for the whole 2 hour drive in. We hang out, cook some prime rib, and have a few. We spent a while watching thunderstorms go through the canyon and it was awesome. Anyway, as it got dark, we packed up and decided to shut in for the night since fires were prohibited. This was day 13 of our trip so we were beat.

We go to sleep and its a windy one. Like I said earlier, I barely slept. I got up around 3 to take a leak and all was well.

I woke up finally with the sunrise around 5 am. Decided to get out of the tent and do my business. As I climb down, there is another truck right next to mine. Maybe 30 feet away. How I did not hear them come up is a mystery to me. It was a big diesel. Immediately I think "oh shit, its a ranger. I bet we aren't supposed to be here." They must have come in while the wind was bad at like 4:30 and I didn't hear them.

I go and look at the truck and it is completely empty. Nothing in it at all. Okay, might be backpackers that use this as a base and they went down the hill. Nope. Out comes some guy from the bushes saying hello! He was right near my truck. I got a little flustered because I left my gun in my tent and it calms me down to carry one since I am much more analytical of my situation when I do.

The guy started talking to me and seems a little weird. At one point, he reached behind him to tuck in his shirt and I thought for sure a gun was coming out haha. I thought he was going to rob us since we were so far from civilization it would be easy. If he disabled my truck somehow, I'd be SOL.

He ended up being an awesome guy. Just a friendly local who wanted to watch the sunrise. He told us some hiking trails to do and asked a lot about my RTT. Overall, I calmed down after about 20 min of talking to him. Before that I was on high alert. Later, my girlfriend told me that she woke up when she heard him talking to me and was ready to "defend me from above." She had my gun in the tent lol.

Ive had a couple bear encounters in the Sierras. Armed or not, when a bear comes up on ya it's a lonely place to be. Haha

Yeah! One of the things the local guy told me in the morning is that where I was camping is illegal. It was really hard to find info on this place and nobody would tell us anything about it. We messed up. However, he did tell me that there are 2 places to camp right there on the rim that have the same view and are in the same general location. Just about a mile away.

The place is called Havasupai Point. It is above Havasupai Falls. I'll try to remember where the sites that are legal are!
We are planning on going again someday! Hopefully the next year or 2.

I'm not even a fan of black bears and they are nearly harmless. I think all species of bears are awesome animals, but I've seen a grizzly pick up a fallen tree like it was a twig...
