I was looking at my truck to see what is causing the rubber to pop out when installing. I noticed at the front most part of the hinge cup where the opening is, there are sharp corners. Removed and reinstalled mine and had the same issue. Since the hinge is the biggest diameter right on the edge, it makes it tough because the clearance is not so good, but If I open up the inside diameter it will fit looser when in the installed position. What I have learned is people don't like a loose fitting lock. If you use some car soap or light oil it does make it easier.

The good thing is the tailgate will still be there tomorrow because people will try to take it off and just put their hands in the air and give up. :)

    Thanks again for your support

Got a email today from a fellow Tacoma owner's father stating his son's tailgate was stolen in Carson, CA this is about 5 miles from my house. They did not cut the wire they disconnected it while it was outside his friends house.

I am sure many of you have one of these, but just in case you don't we adjusted the price on our website https://sabellco.com/store to $34.95 to match the price on Amazon and ebay. "TC-Forums" at checkout.

Actually yes, We fit the prototype to the 2016 Tacoma, but it did not quite fit the way we wanted so we need to make some adjustments to the design and account for the very non-centric taper. The lower section fit good, so we will just have to update the upper section. We are working on it but it is taking more time than expected.

Just placed an order but couldn't get the free shipping coupon code to work. Happy to have my tailgate a bit safer though. :)

Just got mine in the mail tonight. Im having a heck of a time getting the two pieces to snap together as shown in the video. Tried putting it on in two pieces, one piece, non-lubricated, lubricated, etc. Can't get it on for the life of me. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the hinge cup and try it that way.

Do you know if you got the version 1 or version 2?

I'm assuming version 2. There are notches on the inside piece.

That's what I'm thinking. There's no possible way to rotate the two pieces once they're on. The outside bracket hits the skin of the tailgate, which means I can't get the pieces to snap together. Not to mention I scratched the life out of the seam where the tailgate skins meet.

I feel so defeated by a tiny little clamp. :(

    Hi,

Just saw this, I sent a PM will my phone number. Will try to help talk you through the install. Pictures are always good. v2.0 will fit 99.99% of all the Tacoma's as I have only had two returned for not fitting.

1.) 2015 hinge pin was excessively long, (it really was sticking way out)
2.) Did not fit the 2004 Nissan Frontier (Buyer was hopeful but nice)

Amazon and Ebay has really grown our sales, but we would not have been able to do this without all of you.

So a BIG THANKS to all of you for your continued support :hattip:

Got my lock on! I used the same method that @tomwil used. Worked like a charm and had it on in 10 minutes. Sounds like a lot of late 14's and on May have the issue with the weld/seam putty.

Thanks a bunch to @scleaf. He was extremely fast to respond to my issue and get everything resolved!

Any updates on the 2016 Tacoma version? I had my Tailgate stole the other night and I'm not letting it happen again.

As much as I like this design, I feel its only weakness is that security screw. It can easily be purchased at HB and before you know it, the same crooks will keep one handy. I will buy one for now, but you have to come with something better than that.

I suggest Bryce security screws, with this combo I think you have 99.9% effectiveness. I would pay a premium for this tailgate clamp and Bryce screw combo.

To all guys in SoCal L.A. area, after doing some research and talking to a few guys selling tailgates in the classifieds. I have a hunch that there is a ring of tailgate bandits roaming the streets out here. Seems like they have a warehouse where they store stacks of these things for all types of trucks and paint color. Protect your trucks.

We will try to get the Gen3 out soon, sorry for the delay. We do have these planned, just had a few setbacks on the fit test we did not like the fit and wanted a better fitting design. Sorry to hear of the stolen tailgate.
