I will probably be building the box myself for behind the passenger seats. I have my Autotek Stealth 1500.1 amp (450w x 1 @ 4ohms, 900 x 1 @ 2 ohms, 1500 x 1 @ 1 ohm) that used to power a DD 9512 sub in my previous car that will carry over. Since both the Sundowns are rated @500 w rms do you think its worth trying to squeeze a 12 over a 10 into that space? Wonder if the 12 would play deeper than the 10?

Also, has anyone bought a Sundown b stock from caraudiobargain.com? Seems to be about a 20% discount on the subs. Curious if its worth it.

There is no replacement for displacement. If you have the space for the 12, do it - especially coming from that DD as that's your benchmark. Deeper? Maybe not, but it will move the cone less to produce the same SPL - which generally means less distortion & higher SPL overall. But do you have the space required back there? I ask because most use 10s if only going with the single spot. The 12 needs a good bit more breathing room to go with all that extra cone area.

You're only going to do this once hopefully so skip the b-stock. You never know what's wrong with it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm leaning now towards doing the install on the passenger side with a rack for my amps & passive xovers in the middle. This would give a little more wiggle room for a slightly wider box. I'm not looking for pounding bass just got lows for songs like "Hotel California" & Gary Numan's "Down in the Park" for example (yeah grew up in late 80's). Seems the 12 needs a mounting depth of 5" so that could be the biggest factor in building a box.

If yu buy a b stock yu can always buy a recone kit just in case.its not all that hard to recone sundowns I've done it multiple times on some 8s. 10s get plenty loud .i built a box for a single sd10 for a buddy's s10 regular cab thing got gets loud rough to hear him a block away.its all on the box yu build .they love ported even tho it's recommended to be sealed

    I use a 10 inch SD3 & it's easily enough.

On the recone kit, yeah, you can buy one but it will end up costing you a good bit more in the end and then you have to figure that out and hope it goes well. And you probably forgo any warranty as well.

I am going to pull the trigger on a single SD3 -10 4ohn to pair with my Autotek 1500.1 monoblock. Is the an online dealer that's preferred over another? I see Sound Solutions Audio & Woofersetc seem to be authorized dealers, who is everyone buying their Sundowns from?

    Thanks.

I used SSA, but can't say if there's really any difference
