I'm partial to Top Ramen (any flavor) with an egg cracked in it, with Sirracha sauce and shredded cheddar.

Also PBnJ is a pre-payday staple, or a Grilled Cheese and tomato soup.

Speaking of grilled cheese, I cooked up a batch of them the other day, first time doing it this way. Get a loaf of sourdough or whatever bread you like, butter one side of 16 slices, shred 8 ounces of medium cheddar and 8 ounces of mozzarella, lay 8 slices butter side down on cookie sheet, top with both cheeses, then put other slice on top butter side up. Bake at 425 for a few minutes, flip and bake more. Great grilled cheese done bulk style. They can be reheated in a pan for best results, or whatever other way you want.

My parents grew/raised/caught/shot most of our food themselves when I was a kid, so I guess we always had enough money for government-free cheese. :notsure:

This brings me back to the college days.

    Budget pizza:
    -sliced bread
    -Can of pizza sauce
-Cheese (i used the "marble" stuff)
    -pack if weiners.

    Preheat oven to about meh.
    Spread sauce on bread slice
Cut up one full weiner and cover one slice
Cut up thin strips of cheese to go on top
    Cook till cheese melts

Sounds pretty dumb but i loved it. Still do.

    Reds potato slop

    Tortillas
    3Potatoes
    1/2 Onion
    1 Jalapeno
    1/2 lb hamburger
    2 slices of cheddar cheese
    Garlic salt
    Fresh cracked pepper
    Smoked paprika
    Olive oil
    Butter

Dice up onions and potatoes until desired thickness, chop jalapeno up and de-seed if desired. I made the onions small as I could and left the potatoes about 1/2" by 1/2"
Coat the pan with olive oil and some butter, place onions, jalapeno and potatoes and stir until the onions are brown
Transfer potato slop mixture in to a medium size pot, add garlic salt, pepper and smoked paprika some water, mix well and cover with foil for a few minutes
When slop is done steaming, place half in another container and brown 1/2 lb hamburger, drain if desired, and add to slop once it's browned, mix well and cover with foil for another minute. You will use the other half of the slop for breakfast .. just add eggs!
The pan you used initially for the slop, use to heat up your tortillas for a nice flavor .. add slices of cheddar and serve!

Paid $13 for everything (minus the seasonings which I already had) .. will make 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts ... that's $3.25 per meal

For me it would be some cornbread and milk with a bowl of pinto beans and a fresh cut onion for the beans! Goof stuff right there!

When I was in school in Texas I used to buy government cheese and the funny money food stamps from a lady for half of face value and my housemates and I would buy all the cheap ass food. Remember the white box, plain black lettering stuff? Yep, bought that shit on the regular.

Mac and cheese on flour tortillas with a splash of that wooden capped stolen free hot sauce was a common recipie at our house. It got real serious when one of us would raid the grocers dumpsters and score some "smells alright" vegetables to add to it.

For a good cheap snack...my mom used to throw some pepperoni slices on a plate, sprinkle shredded cheese on top and nuke in the microwave till the cheese was melted. I still like this now.

I know of this as Cincinnati style spaghetti... Cooked spaghetti (or whatever pasta you like/have) with a can of turkey chili on top. Easy and cheap, and not purely carbs either. And lately I've subbed vegetarian chili from Trader Joe's, comes out pretty damn good too.

Love the legs as well. You can usually get a whole family pack of a dozen or so for about 3 something around here. Great on the grill.
