Okay here we go bare with me...

Brought my truck in for 5k maintenance, howl noise tsb, transmission software tsb, and requested fluid level be checked (for the 3rd time at a 3rd dealer because the others wouldn't check the fluid) I knew about the fluid level issue ahead of time due to you fine folks sharing the knowledge. Huge thank you to the TW community!

11 hours later with an appt mind you I finally get the call that my truck is ready. Here it comes...:crapstorm:

Did you do the software update to the tranny... "no we couldn't replicate the issue". Are you fing kidding me. You have had my truck for 11 hours and you are just now telling me you didn't do the update. I want it done now!

They bring my truck to the service bay and about 45 minutes later they are done.

So now that I have my truck done I ask... so the 5K maintenance is done. "Um no we did the multi-point inspection". My sole purpose for this visit is the 5K maintenance, 2 tsb's, and low fluid check!!! How do you screw that up!!

So they bring my truck back in the bay and rotate my tires.

3rd time I have my truck back...by this point I am beyond pissed. Talk with the manager about their jacked up processes and how could they skip such a easy thing like doing the 5K service. My maintenance light was on and it's what I originally brought the damn thing in for!

So now being pissed off I drill the manager about my fluid level. You say it was checked and full. I have that documented. Manager admits she doesn't know what process was done so I demand that the manual process be followed. She gives me a loaner a fairly new Off Road. (This is the lemon) and tells me they will keep the truck over night and check it manually in the morning.

The next day she calls me about 8 hours later and says "yep it was low on fluid we had to put 1 qt. in it". So what I am hearing is you guys originally lied to me and you didn't check jack shit.

Regarding the howl tsb, they had to order the plugs and will call me. Why wouldn't Toyota automatically send every single dealer like 10 to 20 packs of the plugs. It's not like they sold 100K of the damn things US wide. Yes the logistics and cost would be an issue but hey they can afford it.
Needless to say I got my truck back the 2nd day and everything is finally in order. :fingerscrossed:

Now I question did they really update the tranny software(ecm or whatever it's called).

and yes I called corporate and filed a formal complaint. Toyota corporate is fully aware about the low tranny fluid issue.

Here's the lemon part. So the loaner is a 2016 Off Road, Double Cab, 4x4, etc...

Holy hell guys there are truly lemons out there! This truck was getting 12mpg and had a severe buzz/vibration in the brake pedal. I have pics of the mpg, but didn't record the audio of the buzz in the brake pedal. You could hear it plain as day. I could replicate it. Apply brake, lift off real quick, and quickly re-apply brake and you get the feel and sound of a buzz in the pedal. Truck was made in May in Baja.

I have seen some mpg issues with some trucks on this forum and I can assure it's real. I live an an area where the max speed is 45mph and most streets are 35mph. I was driving like a grandma and I would be safe to say the rpm didn't get above 3K. With 35mph limits there's no reason for me to gun it. I can upload the pics later if you guys want to see the low mpg.

Offroads get worse mileage than the other models.

Buzz is the electric brake booster. Doesn't have vacuum boost like other models

Why doesn't my Sport do it? I have 5100 miles on my truck which was built in TX and not once have I felt it. It's smooth as butter no matter how I brake. The Off Road's braking felt completely different.

The off-road uses a electric booster and master cylinder assembly so that it has the crawl control and MTS function. This "buzz" is the booster pumping up. Some trucks are more noticeable than others.

Bruh.....im all for agreeing that the new Tacoma has its issues, but you goofin'.

The dealer actually treated you really well after not much effort. You got your tranny manually checked, they fully admitted the fluid level adjustment required.

The plugs have been on backorder forever, it is usually an order item.

They gave you a TACOMA as a loaner. They didn't have to give you anything, and especially not a Tacoma. Most people get stuck in a Prius that they have to park down the block out of embarrassment.

Your loaner was not a lemon, that happens on every OR model with the electric brake booster.

Odd, my OR brakes don't buzz, they are ok. Gas mileage is usually 18-20 mpg, even when nailing the gas pedal.

Really...? It isn't a constant buzzing, just a short 1 second buzz that occurs if you take your foot off the brake and then press it again (may take a couple times). Usually noticeable at a stoplight, but honestly I don't even notice it much anymore (nothing has changed, I must just disregard it).

No, I just hear a slight "squish" sound the instant they are applied, and they bite quick.

I get the squish too, well it is more of a squeak squish, but at a stoplight try pressing your brakes, letting go and pressing again a couple of times. If there is nothing you are the first.

Did you catch the part where I have in writing where they say they checked it and it was full... then I demanded they recheck it and they had to add 1 qt. They lied...

Also you don't hold onto someone's vehicle for 11 hours and then call the customer. That's crappy service! They also didn't do the 5k service after having the truck for 11 hours and didn't apply the tranny software update like I asked. Had they called me say mid-day I would have asked them to apply it anyway.

Yeah but honestly I'm surprised you got as much as you did. Want my 5k dealer experience?

I started to list off the issues I'm having with the truck and was stopped mid sentence by the service manager and told that "my truck is still breaking in and I have nothing to worry about, Tacoma's are bulletproof."

So now i get to go to another dealer almost 5k miles later with the same problems hoping they will address them. Many people here have legitimate problems only for Toyota to avoid the warranty repairs by saying "oh, thats normal they all do that." And really, what are you going to do to counter that?
