AC blows cold on drivers side

I have a 2005 and just had the AC recharged. It blows cold from the drivers vent but gets hotter at each vent going towards the passenger side. It is like the AC is on on one side and the heat is on on the other. Any ideas?

 

Sounds like you clogged your filter/drier when you recharged the system.

 

Sounds like your expansion valve/orifice tube is sticking or clogged. The expansion valve/orifice tube regulates the amount of R134-A that enters the evaporator core which then regulates the temperature of the air coming out of your vents.

??? Did you recently replace your compressor? If so the debris from the failed compressor could have clogged the expansion valve.

I just worked on a Ford Van that had this exact same problem and the expansion valve was clogged causing the air to blow warm on one side and cold on the other.

Just to make sure, I don't think any Tacomas come with dual climate controls do they? If you had dual climate controls it could be a temp door actuator, but I don't think that's the problem.

If your reciever dryer was clogged your a/c would not work at all and likely blow out a hose since it is on the high pressure side of the system.

BTW I am an ASE certified tech for HVAC systems.

 

^^Could be the expansion valve also as the same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I took it to a shop and at first the tech was saying it's more than likely the expansion valve but after checking the system my expansion valve was good. Turned out to be the filter / drier element. Looks like this :



I think the proper name for it is a "A/C Dessicant Element," sorry about that guys

So, is this something I can fix? I really don't understand how something outside the truck can cause a problem like this inside. Wouldn't the ac core inside the truck be cold causing the all vents to blow cold? No, it doesn't have dual climate control. The only work that has been done to the ac system was the recharge because it wasn't blowing cold. I could understand the dual climate theory of a flapper door being stuck or something. Can the "A/C Dessicant Element" be purchased at any place other than the dealer and can it be replaced without discharging the freon?

I had the same issue with the cool drivers side/warm passenger side vents in my 2010 Tacoma. Finally took it to the dealer to get fixed (after almost 2 months of +90 degree days without a good working AC) and they just recharged the AC and replaced an O-ring somewhere in the system and now it seems to be resolved.

 

That sounds like a condensor fan issue. Might wanna check and make sure your condensor fan is working properly.

 

Hey Nelson, could the a/c dessicant element be the reason i'm getting warm air at idle and then when i'm driving it starts blowing cold air? Its almost like the cycle switch turns on for like 30 seconds when i'm idling then i can feel the compressor turn off, and i start getting hot air. Its really a pain because i can't chill in my truck at the Jack in the Box with my ac on because its starts blowing hot or warm air depending on the temp outside. I don't know what kind of maintainence my truck had before (i bought it used) so i really couldn't say whats going on. I would like to get it working properly since i just recently had a baby and I would like to have it on during the summer. Thanks!

 

Sounds like the A/C system is just a little bit low. May have a small slow leak. Put the correct amount in and it will be fine. Seen it many times..

My 2009 Toyota Tacoma air conditioner is blowing cold air on the left side and the right is blowing hot air. Can you say what causes this?

 

First thing to check is the refrigerant level, with a set of gauges.

 

Blower door? Might be getting stuck or something stuck in the vents. But I can't tell you, I've never ran across this issue.

 

My 2013 is doing the same thing. I hope it don't cost an arm and a leg to fix.

 

your charge is low. I had the same problem and recharged it. Now in 95 degree weather I rarely turn it above the low setting once I get the cabin cooled. Above 95 I will run it on the second for the most part.

 

Have same issue looks like I need a recharge think a do it yourself kit will work or do I need the refrigerant completely changed out
