45 minutes from Loaf n Jug to Rollinsville. I'd say it would be similar to Jones Pass... 1.5-2 hours maybe?

Yeah, throw it in. I got a shorter antenna, so I'll try and tune mine. I have not fixed my extension cable. Maybe I'll do that later (probably not), but I can always bypass it for tomorrow.

Just an FYI... There is an FJ group meet up at Rollins east around 11:00 of 20 + trucks (including me:crapstorm: in my taco). Will be there for lunch and then doing pickle gulch.
It is a charity event to raise some $$$.

Meet up is at 10 at the bottom. I just assumed we'd be up there around 11 to probably 1-2. Then to pickle gulch.

Ha ! I'm assuming they're grilling burgers. Donate to the cause and I'm sure they'll be cool to serve lunch.

Labor Day weekend fast approaches. It's late notice, but I am looking to put together a crew for a trek starting this Friday Sept. 2nd. The first leg will be an evening drive and camp up to Kenosha Pass Friday night. We'll set up our first camp and crack a few beers. Saturday morning will be a Twin Cone run, followed by us heading southeast to China Wall.

We'll make camp there on Saturday night, then proceed to Run China Wall on Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon, we head east towards Long Hollow Road, then get into Rampart Range and make our final camp.

Monday we finish the trip with the mild offerings of Rampart Range, and head home. Basically, we will depart from the foothills of Wheat Ridge, then end up in Monument. We'll cover a couple hundred miles, but the schedule should keep us from having to dedicate more than a few hours to travel outside of the trails.

    https://www.mediafire.com/?ztwewd2rlslcpps

Above is a link to download the GPX track that will serve the biggest part of the journey. I wanted to maintain a minimum of waypoints, and Long Hollow Road will connect to Rampart Range Road, for the final destination. I didn't feel this really needed a section of its own.

I vetted the route as much as possible. There will be opportunity to refuel in both Jefferson on day 2 and Lake George on Day 3. All connecting routes are county roads. There will be some asphalt to trek, but even that will be pretty isolated - a two-lane, unmarked section of County Rd 77; twenty minutes on Hwy 24 in the country; another half hour on Hwy 67 southeast of Thunder Butte.

PM me here if you're free and interested. Even if you can only run for a day trip, or do one portion, let me know. Cheers.

    EDIT:

As someone mentioned, it will be a generally busy weekend all around, and two of the destinations are popular. So for those worried about finding a place to camp, have no fear:

-Kenosha Pass has paid sites and dispersed camping at the trailhead just off of 285. It will be a zoo. However, if you've never run Twin Cone, there's good news. To get to the actual 4x4 trail, you go through two closed gates past the trailhead marked private property. The gates are just there to mark boundaries, but the trail is still a USFS fire road that's open to the public. All the Renegades and CRVs turn tail at these gates. Moreover, past them marks the beginning of the bumpy stuff. There will be more places to pitch a tent than you can count up on the mountain, I assure you.

-Rampart Range is also a zoo if you find yourself on Mt. Herman or the sites just off the main road. However, F.R. 300 is a short 4x4 loop that is challenging enough to discourage most everyone. The assholes that shoot up computer monitors and leave beer cans laying around won't venture past the first hill descent, and there are some amazing little spots to camp out tucked back into the west end. The view into Woodland Park from the hiking trail is worth it alone.

bugging out to UT this weekend after work Saturday coming back late Monday...destiny unbound

if anyone is interested in exploring some areas, shoot me a PM.

must be reliable vehicle as there's a good chance we'll be logging some miles in the backcountry far from main roads..

recovery gear is recommended as many of these areas are not well traveled

    spare gas is likely needed

will be camping in primitive areas, so bring proper supplies

other option i'm exploring hits two of the harder trails in the san rafael swell, so stock setup would not be advised.

will be long days in the saddle with hiking and exploring around old mines a high possibility.
