that's exactly my point. Did you not read my comment? Or you just immediately saw the first part and ignored the second?

"Consumer Reports is written for 70-90 year olds that don't use the internet to find real evaluations on products."

You use the internet. That means the above comment is NOT about you. See how that works?

Despite your use of the word 'that', the "insinuation" in your post was that 70-90 year olds DON'T use the internet so I still take offense. Don't piss off old folks.

I disagree. Just because you read it that way, doesn't mean that's what it says. I don't piss off old folks. I work with a lot of them so we generally get along just fine. Except the ones that are just angry all the time. You wouldn't be angry all the time, would you? :boink:

I was recently speaking with a service manager at the Toyota dealer near my home and I was told that a lot of current owners of the new Tacoma are upset because they traded in their last gen tacomas to purchase a 2016 which has been nothing but problems for many. I agree that this report does not truly provide a good overall picture of the vehicle but unless everysingle person goes on the forum before purchasing a car to verify concerns and issues, they will not have another resource besides this report. The manager was also saying that he has never seen so many people trading back their new tacomas which is not a good sign.

I'm looking at getting a 2016 or 17 Tacoma Sport and hearing about all the troubles the 3rd gen are having is troubling. What seems to be the concensus among the group?

I read a comment similar to this, on another thread, and being curious, a few days later passed my local dealers lot, where I shopped for, but didnt buy, my '16 Tacoma, and checked out the used lot. They usually have more used Tacomas than anyone in the area , 5-7 at any given time. I walked down the line, they had 14 of em, all in a row facing the street! But only one 2016, the red one at far left. So, it does appear a lot of folks traded in Tacomas this year, at that dealer anyway. But that limited sample size, didnt confirm a surge of used 2016's as I thought it might.

I would wait for a 17 if I was purchasing one, that's my thought on it.

I guess what I was saying is that people are not happy because they traded in their older Tacoma for a new one which now may or may not have problems. It seems like it's a hit or miss with these new ones, some have issues while others are fine. I would be pissed if I traded in my perfectly reliable 2014 Tacoma and the 2016 was full of problems. That's what he was saying. Looking at one dealer and how many used 2016 tacomas they have will not offer a good enough indication to the problem. I'm not trying to bash on the truck, I'm just repeating what I was told.

Well, after reading reports that the '17 has the same buzzy vibration that the '16 has (and seeing that it appears to be, for all intents and purposes, identical, with no changes except a power rear slider, to the '16), and reading the reviews on CR, edmunds, etc., I'd wait for the '18.....

Although I can also report that my local dealership told me that they have gotten several '16's in trade; however, have no trouble selling them, so............drive it for a long test drive and see if you like it, and if you do, buy what you like!

That might not be a bad idea, I would also look at a low mileage 14/15.

Roger that! I wish I had insisted on an overnight test drive, but I didnt. And I'm not a basher of the 2016 in general, I really love everything about the truck, except the engine choices. A pokey old I4, or a buzzy new V6. Thats it.
If had it for a day or two, I think I would have gone with something else, just because of that.

Unless you are in dire need of a new vehicle, I would wait. I would wait until Ford brings out the Ranger and then you will see what every major player has to offer. If Ford doesn't hit it right with the Ranger then the Tacoma wins.

I was a member here before owning my 3rd gen, went out of state to buy it and ended up with a few of the known problems on this board. That is either horrible luck or the problems are a bit more widespread than the fanboys care to admit.

Buzzing vibration in the steering wheel at 2100 RPM, shuddering when coming to a stop/driving at lower speeds, differential howling like an old 200k mile Ford that has been slowly leaking diff oil for years, high pressure fuel pump sounds like crickets when idling hot, excessive wind noise (and sometimes drops of water) through the window seals, and some really small things that almost aren't worth mentioning.

The truck is a good truck overall, and I have been very happy with how it performs offroad. But it is way too soon for people to comment on how "reliable" this generation is. I want to see a majority of them make it to 150k+ with only standard maintenance before I'll accept the "Tacomas are bulletproof man, best reliability out of all brands on the market" argument.

I think you make some great points, I also think that people should wait a few more years before saying this gen is reliable like the previous. I think this gen will do very well even if they continue to have problems. The difference today is that Toyota needs to understand that other manufacturers are offering great options in this segment because they know how hot it is.

dont you guys think it odd that the vibration issue in the V6, so well documented on this forum, by actual owners, are not mentioned in any of the reviews? At least in the ones I've read. I test drove 4 different, differently equipped 2016 3.5 V6, and they all had that issue, some noticeable, but not too bad, some a deal breaker. The TRD off road was the worst, for whatever reason
