Now I'm confused. Are you asking me or are you asking thunderone?

Sounds like thunderone's issue is worse. But I'll check my fuel trims.

My guess is they'll be just as awesome as they were right after I changed my MAF sensor, as listed earlier in this thread. :)

You guys need to quote me otherwise I won't get the notification lol. I don't know if it's worse but it's definitely there.

As for fuel trims, no clue. Need a scan gauge :)

Closed the gaps to <.040.... No change in behavior. I'm out of ideas except for the major service that needs to be done.

Shit man, that sucks. Just from reading I know this has been a real pain in the ass for you. I wish I had some kind of possible idea for a solution. There's gotta be something...

Well I'll have the stealer do the injectors, valve cover gaskets, valve adjustment, timing belt, water pump and probably LBJs all in one trip. That will probably be in several months, whenever I hit 200k. I'll be sure to report back once that's done and let y'all know what happens.

The LBJ's should take care of the pinging.

    She pings. :-(

I have determined (with no data to back it up) that this is by design. The computer seems to adjust the timing so that you get an occassional ping. That is how it knows that it set right. If it never pings, it will advance the timing until it occasionally pings. If it pings too much, it will back it off a little bit. This is why going to 89 or 91 octane works for only a little while.

    IMHO!

That may very well be the case and may be why the manual says that occasional pinging will occur. So maybe we are just worrying too much about it. The plugs do look just fine. Guess I'll just have to learn to ignore it lol.

I guess I'll drop this wingnut down the carburetor; in the 16 years I've owned my Tacoma, not one time did that 3.4 ping. Ever. And this ping thing is a peeve of mine. My '86 GMC Jimmy pinged like it was going to blow and I was in that engine bay EVERY FRIKKIN DAY!!!! trying to find out why after blowing bucks having a dealership come up with nothing. That truck made me crazy till I got rid of it.
I guess I'm posting this to show that pinging is not a regular thing with ALL 3.4s as previously posted.
EDIT: I should've said that I have only used Chevron or 76 fuel and strictly 91 octane always. This may matter.
