Anything 4 cylinders would never be stolen anyway, so why would they need a chip? ...And 3rd gen. :stirthepot:

Different generations, did it have an i4 or v6? US spec 2nd gen 4cyl have no chip regardless of trim. Up to 2012 anyways..

Also, all Canadian spec 2nd gens have a chip key, regardless of trim level - including base and 4cyl models.

On an immobilizer equipped truck, a plain key will work fine for the doors, and allow the use of accessory power, turn the ignition power on, and even crank the engine. It won't start though.

This is really getting strange because the 2012 I4 base Access Cab SR5 that I had did have a chip key. I did have a problem because I wanted a spare key made just to open the door and Walmart and Home Depot refused to do it because of the chip.

So you had the blinking red security light? Mine did not. I had a chip less key made that started it.

They just don't know what they are doing. The chip is used to start the engine and has no effect on unlocking doors.

That is your penis not your key. That is caused by the blue pills you take not the chip in your key..

I got it. Maybe they only send trucks with chips to high crime areas.
