    hey Guys

So I got a question, anyone know of a kit to throw a newer engine or to swap engine components to the 1st gen from a 2nd gen I'm sure it's been done

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Not 100% sure, but it seems like there's a lot more that goes into it than meets the eye. The 2nd gen 2.7 I had compared to the 2.7's I've seen in 1st gens are completely different. The only thing they appear to share in common is the 2.7! The heads on mine were a good bit wider and taller, it sat further back against the firewall (where the first gen engine is mounted up high, and towards the front of the chassis) and not to mention, there's a whole lot more electronics and wiring on the newer ones obviously.

I'm sure it can be done, a swap, that is; but it all comes down to how much money, time and effort you want to put into it. I don't see a head swap being very simple. But then again, that's a question someone who's actually disassembled both engines down to every last nut and bolt would have to answer.

Im curious on what your trying to achieve by wanting to do this, 2nd gens have almost nothing in common with 1st gens

It's a 4 cyl, what do you expect? But if you want to do an engine swap putting more electronics in your truck is not the best option. Try a 3.4 or a 3.0, maybe shoehorn a 4.7 in.

Never heard of it done but the gain is probably minimal. You r better off doing a toyota v8 swap, example 4.7 or 2jz. There's a few on here that has done these.

It would be easier to put in a turbo charger then do a head swap, with vvti theres a whole mess of shit that comes with it, if its even possible.

Maybe put in a bigger cam, people used to do it to the 22r all the time

I'm jut wondering if this had been done and what has to change

personally I'd throw a supercharger on it before a engine swap, or just sell the truck and buy the 3.4,

so there is a ton of electronics involved to prolly custom wiring and it's not worth the power gain

If it's what you really want, go for it and post a bitchin' build thread for us. But the 2TR only has 3 more ft. lbs. of torque than the 3RZ. Also, turbo and supercharger kits are less expensive for the 3RZ. I would have a guilty conscience if I didn't tell you that.

Yeah, I would love to just throw a freaking supercharger on my truck but I need a quote from someone who will want to throw it on my truck fast like within the weekend or a few days, I daily drive it so I'd need to pay him and have it off the lift ASAP, California smog legal ,

2JZ all the way! There's a current build for that going on here now. Just finding a 2JZ for a reasonable amount of money is the challenge. The MK4 guys don't let those things go very easily.
