Adding boost to any engine without proper engine management is never going to work out. The only time you ever hear of failures is when someone adds forced induction to an engine and skimps out on any part of the setup, whether it be proper fuel, engine management, tuning, etc.

In the end every engine starts off life naturally aspirated, and somewhere along the line it is engineered to handle forced induction, whether it be in the manufacturing level or in your garage, there is no difference when executed properly.

Many people have considered the OZboost kit mainly because of two reasons, they are the only ones making a "kit" (I use that term extremely loosely), and because it is cheap. In reality there is no cheap way of doing this properly.

And for those that haven't followed my posts closely, the only thing I have not replaced from the ozboost kit so far has been the manifold and the downpipe. I essentially paid over $1,500 for their manifold and downpipe as the rest has gone into the garbage.

The somewhat high compression ratio limits you to a pretty low boost pressure, correct?

It's probably a bit more sensitive to tuning, but piggybacks and ecu have been getting faster. Meaning they can log and react faster. With good fuel he could probably push that turbo to 20psi without a problem. Roughly 300whp. In the last year mapecu added about 5 extra safeguards to pull boost or timing in case something goes wrong.

Wow, I didn't know they were so advanced these days. 20psi is a lot for a stock engine tho isn't it?

Some of the safeguards are redundant to the ecu. So that may slow you down. Try not to think of a turbo in terms of psi. Look at the flow. It's about 30-32lbs/min out of a 2871. His egt might be getting toasty, but good fuel and pull enough timing.

There's a lot to know about all this. Years ago I read a book called "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell, but I can't recall most of it. Gotta bust it out again!

Hey Kirk, I'm curious if you can post up an itemized list of parts you used for your turbo 2TR project. I'd be a little more confident buying parts you've used and proven than choose stuff on my own with my very limited knowledge. I'd like to know what all the parts cost would be to build a low boost set up like you've got. I might start looking into this more seriously if I can retain reliability with all the safeguards that are possible.

What was your exact method, if you don't mind me asking?

Hey Kirk, any updates on how your truck is running?

I'm in the middle of a road trip out west and the slow climb up some of these hills is giving me plenty of time to talk myself into a turbo setup!

We'd love to hear some more details if you have the time to post 'em!

The truck is running awesome! I've been on a break from the forum and playing with my toys lately as the business has been demanding a lot of my time lately with some major changes I am working on. With that being said, I do have something rather cool and unique that I am working on for the truck turbocharger. I should have it all finished up in about two weeks and will post some videos on here for you guys.

Here is how it currently sits:

Honestly, as much as I would love to work on producing a quality kit, I currently don't have enough time to take on such projects with my work schedule. :( Believe me, it is on my to-do list in the future!

I do not mind helping at all :) I have tried to document as much as possible in this thread in order to make the process a little more clear for anyone who wants to tackle it. I have put about 3000 miles on my truck since going turbo and have also towed with it without a single issue. No check engine lights, no weird smells, noises (other than blow off valve!), etc.
