I got industrious in the heat and rotated my tires on my new to me 2013 baja edition and was a bit surprised at the seemingly light duty stock lug nuts. I'm used to solid nuts not two piece with a seemingly flimsy socket - even though they only torque to 83 ft lbs. it felt like I was going to pop something. I do it all by hand with a quality calibrated torque wrench but still felt like they were weak. It's a low mileage truck - first rotation at 8k mikes.

I noticed the design of the 2-piece nut "pushes" the cone seat against the wheel while a solid nut would "turn" the nut seat against the wheel. Being a bit OCD about such details I wanted to ask if anyone this is an intentional design? Or if anyone has switched to solid nuts and had issues?

Interestingly I have a spare set of high quality solid nuts from my former C6Z06 and they fit the Taco perfectly (same thread, proper length and taper end). Is there any reason I should not switch the OEM two piece with quality solid nuts? And would it be correct to assume the torque spec would remain 83 ft lbs?

By the way just another interesting thing, the torque spec for the Z06 was 120 ft lbs. - totally different application but just found that interesting.

    Any input appreciated.
    Thanks!
