    Hey everyone,

There are some threads with similar issues here, but I seem to have a new one, or at least, I couldn't find anything that seemed to directly apply. I've got a 1997 SR5 stick shift that just rolled past 260k miles. It runs great, and I just recently did some lower suspension work on it, and intend to keep it for several more years...

I very recently lost control of my power windows. Nothing on the drivers side works (power windows, power locks, power mirror control), and the window on the passengers side doesn't work, but the door lock on the passenger side does.

I looked at all the fuses by the driver's left knee, none look blown.

I checked to make sure I was getting power to the wiring harness on the driver's side and I have several slots that are testing hot when the key is on (grounded against the body - I need to dig out my Haynes manual and find out which one is the ground wire).

It seems weird that several switches went out simultaneously, including the mirror controls, which use an entirely separate wiring harness, so the power was my first thought. After it checked out, I went to the child safety switch which disables several of them , thinking it may have gone bad. I tested it's contacts and it seemed fine.

At that point I was at a loss, but switches are cheap and the one that worked the drivers window had been getting a little stiff anyway, so I bought a new one - No change, all the same problems, though now those switches look about 260k miles newer.

So now I am back to square one in troubleshooting. I'm going to investigate that ground wire with the wiring diagram, but it seems like this is a fundamental issue that is affecting both harnesses, and may originate under the dash somewhere. (I'm assuming that the problem with the passenger window originates from the driver's window switches, as it seems unlikely that two problems appeared simultaneously.

Other than looking for a ground wire to test, any suggestions on this?

    Thanks!

    Stephen

i had a similar issue on my dcab at about 210,000 miles... i replaced the whole switch panel in the door and got all my control back... found it on ebay for cheaper than dealer...

oh wait... just re-read your post... you changed the switches out... did you test power to the harness?

there is supposed to be 12v+ power on the blue wire with red stripe

the door locks only use a ground wire circuit and power is always "on" to them so if you don't have 12v+ power they will both not work

here is a break down of how everything works in the door wiring harness of 04 2dr prerunner Tacoma

    drivers side large plug:
large white wire black stripe (to other door) (-12v main ground wire)
large red wire blue stripe (to other door) (PW motor)
large red wire black stripe (to other door) (PW motor)
large blue wire white stripe (to other door) (PDL actuator)
large blue wire (to other door) (PDL actuator)
large blue wire red stripe (to other door) (+12v PW/PDL power)
small red wire yellow stripe (door lock switch -12v circuit)
small black wire blue stripe (door unlock switch -12v circuit)
    - small blue wire black stripe (not sure, goes to ECM, must be for the auto door lock/unlocker)
    - small green wire black stripe (not sure, goes to ECM, must be for the auto door lock/unlocker)
    - small grey wire (not sure, goes to ECM, must be for the auto door lock/unlocker)

    drivers side small plug:
small green wire red stripe (to other door)
small green wire black stripe (to other door)
small red wire (to other door)
small blue wire red stripe (+12v mirror power hooks to same power source as large +12v blue wire red stripe)
    small pink wire (speaker wire)
    small purple wire (speaker wire)

    passengers side large plug:
large red wire blue stripe (to other door) (PW motor)
large red wire black stripe (to other door) (PW motor) large blue wire white stripe (to other door) (PDL actuator)
large blue wire (to other door) (PDL actuator)
large blue wire red stripe (to other door) (+12v PW/PDL power)
small white wire black stripe (to other door) (-12v main ground wire)
small red wire yellow stripe (door lock switch -12v circuit)
small black wire blue stripe (door unlock switch -12v circuit)
    - small black wire (not sure, goes to ECM, must be for the auto door lock/unlocker)
    - small grey wire (not sure, goes to ECM, must be for the auto door lock/unlocker)
    - small purple wire (not sure, goes to ECM, must be for the auto door lock/unlocker)

    passengers side small plug:
small green wire red stripe (to other door)
small green wire black stripe (to other door)
small red wire (to other door)
small navy blue wire (speaker wire)
    small green wire (speaker wire)

    hope that helps

Do the passenger side door lock and window switches work? eg the ones on the passenger side door.

Hey Madjik Man, I think I didn't write very clearly in the OP. None of the drivers side controls work at all. On the passenger side, the door locks work, but not the window control.

Thanks Keakar! Having that in that format is super clear, I'll be pulling out the Haynes manual and doing some more testing later.

Mike, as noted above, I did check the harness in a very general way, as I didn't have the wiring diagram at the time, but I was definitely getting 12v on several wires of it. Today will be narrowing it down and making sure all of the proper ones are getting power, and that the ground seems to be unbroken. I'm kind of expecting it to be the ground, since there is at least some power and the new switch didn't work.
