You handled that the correct way. You let out your anger and aggression before you got out of the truck....,Had the audio inside the cab been silent after the crash I would have feared for that little bald fellow's life upon exiting the vehicle.

Sorry about your truck, I drive that route quite often and figure it's just a matter of time. Just FYI your license plate numbers are no big deal; nobody here can glean any personal information about you from it. Thousands of people see your license plate every day on the road. I realize there's some kind of interweb paranoia about it but if you don't believe me, go look up Drivers Protection Privacy Act.

And with cameras filming, a lawsuit and criminal charges would have likely been filed.

Then the truck could be enjoyed by looking at pictures sent to your nice clean jail cell.

In today's litigation happy society, caution before action is highly advisable.

No problem showing it for normal instances, but there have been a few times where youtubes of people hooning around have received a visit from the local constabulary if their plate number was visible.

Yeah if you're breaking the law. But even as a federal agent or law enforcement, you technically can't be going out and searching people's plate numbers unless there is official cause to do so...

This is a great example of the benefit of a dashcam. Especially one with a rear facing unit as well. I'd looked at these a while ago but never did anything about it, this provides some impetus now.

Speaking for myself though, I personally wouldn't have the thing recording my speed. No reason to make things super easy for Mr. Prosecutor. Also be careful to check your local/state laws on audio recordings.

This was my thought too. Truck took that impact well as far as road handling goes.

In an accident video like this, I'd be more worried about an ambulance chaser attorney tracking me down :D

In AZ you can record audio if only one person is aware of it (that person can be yourself) -- this law is the same in many other states as well.

As far as dash cam, in this case I don't see how it really helped unless the guy had fled the scene AND there was a clear shot of his license plate. That would have enabled law enforcement to track him down. In this particular scenario the only thing the dash cam really did is to provide entertainment for forum viewers. The offender stopped and offered his information; it was a clear case of being rear-ended so there is no question of fault (with or without video).

Yep. Recording with single-party consent is legal in thirty seven states and illegal in thirteen. Since it's illegal in over 1/4 of the states, I figured it was worth suggesting folks do their homework if they get a dashcam.

Correct. In *this* instance the dashcam was largely superfluous. It could easily have gone a different way. Like the time a guy drove into the side of my car, then *lied* to the police officer who showed up fifteen minutes later, resulting in my getting a ticket for something I hadn't done.

I have my dashcam audio turned off. Don't want my words or music recorded.

However, OP's choice of radio station was good ... Simply Irresistible!
