You can buy HMMVs fairly cheap from military auctions.

    All you backyard grill masters....

Cryovac PRIME tri tip @ Costco, $4.89/lb.

    6-8 roasts per bag.

Won't find a better price for prime!

You can, but from what I have seen is the auction prices fluctuate greatly from the initial "starting bid" price to the finalized bidding price. Like crazy price differences..... and the other ones that don't sell for much are the junks that probably aren't worth a thing anyways. Also, last I heard, they still haven't made them street legal. Maybe they have by now, but that wasn't the case back when I was looking at them. Would be awesome to have one though.... smh

I'd love to have one to wheel, but can you make it #EAF with an RTT is the question :spy:

No kidding.... sheeesh. All I think about is the video of the HMMV driving through a creek submerged up to the roof and it was still driving around like it was nothing. Incredible how they built those machines. Might be kind of a bitch on some of the smaller trails though....... might have to be the "BBQ guy" and stay behind to setup camp every evening for everyone else. lol

Anybody here have experience with service on Warn winches? M8000 clutch will not disengage to allow freespool; handle won't move past about half way. Worked initially on Saturday, just a little stiff to move the handle. Did a pretty heavy pull, then couldn't get it to disengage when it was time for a reset for a second attempt. Still works fine engaged. I'll have it out on the bench anyhow when my new bumper arrives but I've never taken one apart. Hints, tips or help appreciated.

My neighbor had an H1 diesel back in the day. First time he took it out, the trail he was on gave way under the weight and dumped him roof side down in the middle of nowhere.

Had a snorkel and it was black, and incredible. Rode in it a few times, mainly remember it being super loud inside to the point where a conversation had to be loud talking, even from the driver seat to front passenger seat. It was badass.

Last year I did some work at the Marin Co. Sheriff's Dept. in Mill Valley, and they had a flat black HMMV with turret top (no gun) and armored out. Looking inside one of those was kind of a mind fuck. I can't imagine what it's like to be in combat, fully equipped and gunned up and driving one of those through a hostile area.

Really reinforced my gratitude and appreciation for those in uniform. I don't know why it came over me to the extent that it did, but gave a great perspective.

Yeah I have to agree with your last couple sentences. I have had those feelings a few times when seeing old submarines and such. Just the thought of "wow these individuals lived this life every day to protect all of us back home." It would be surreal riding around in a HMMV out in Iraq or something and seeing what those guys have to do every day. Too much respect for all of the servicemen and women. Yeah its funny when you see some of the toys these LE departments have in the back room or back garage. My dad is a LEO chief of the town, and my brother's and I always try to roll over to his office when we all go back to visit and take pictures of his squad cars and such, just because its cool to see. Not something you get to see every day up close.

Yeah the engines go into the cab on those things. And once you get the radio mounts and all that other crap we used overseas there's not a lot of room for movement in there. We ended up moving to RG-33 MRAPS my second deployment but I still missed the HMMVS. They stopped using them because they didn't offer enough protection against IEDS and EFPs.

My recollection is that these babies were somewhat prone to rollover. And if the crews weren't able to get them back on their feet, and a wrecker was not available, they were destroyed where they rolled.

How many inches of lift do I need to fit those tires? Will spacers or body lift work? I think Rough Country has a nice kit, right?

They were top heavy that's for sure. We did experience a few rollovers but we're able to recover them. Not sure about them being blown in place as everything was recovered, whether it was all fucked up or not. Now when we were escorting convoys of the locals driving stuff, we blew their shit up of we couldn't recover it.

Definitely blown in place. Watched a drone feed on a couple occasions in which that tactic was utilized. Didn't want Muhammed to get hands on.
