I didn't get a letter or any notification from Toyota. By chance I called Lithia Toyota in Medford to ask about the recall and a very nice service person told me, "You're in luck. The replacement parts came in last week." They replaced the old springs with new ones which contain an extra leaf. No charge.

So the moral is, don't wait for Toyota to get in touch with you. Call your local dealer and see if they have the parts!

Thanks for your experience, one of my local suspension shops seems to think an AAL would be sufficient as well. Will go that route if it's enough extra lift and support, but would rather spend more on leaf packs if it is a close call.

Anyone notice their driver side rear sits .5 inch lower than passenger side? Front measurements are equal. :notsure:

I have 5100's all around and up front shocks are set to second to highest setting, Leveling plate and I had a AAL in the back but today they took it out to put in the recall springs.

Another point to mention is the dealership said it was a legal matter as to why they would not put my AAL in the new pack....

All the obvious (to me) variables have been negated, tire pressure, load in bed of truck, undeveloped parking surface etc...

maybe a full gas tank? id hate think that a full gas tank can make it lower by .5" though lol

Similar experience yesterday. I had a Les Schwab "tough country" AAL that was replaced with the 4 leaf pack and 2 inch blocks. They would not reinstall the AAL (even though at inspection and the actual appointment they committed to doing so). I marked the ride height with tape when I brought it in. It's a quarter inch low on drivers side with a full tank and an eighth low on the passenger side. I don't think I'll worry about it. Not sure about load capacity with the new four leaf pack vs the old three leaf with AAL. I tow a boat with the truck. We'll see...

supposedly the new 4-leaf have the same net spring rate as the old 3-leaf.

If that's true, moving from an AAL to a block is a step backward for load capacity. Bummer. The ride is better, I can say that.

Didn't read all that was going on this thread but heres my experience, just Got mine done a few months ago.

Got word from a Tacoma buddy in town that one of the Toyota Dealerships got in like 100+ sets in. Called em up and got scheduled (no letter yet)
Went down end of that week got them replaced. Had a little hassle with my Procomp AAL. They originally would not put the AAL back in because they said "They are not allowed to modify the leaf packs", I said fine thats stupid but ok Leave them out and put them in my bed ill install them later. So at this point id be Rolling home about 1 inch lower in rear. After waiting a bit SalesGuy came out and said he talked to the lead Tech and he said he can install my AALs for 90$. After being pissed for a few mins I decided 90$ for new leafs is not bad for a day. Got em installed payed the money and left. No more issues rides great, feels a lot more solid in the rear. Funny ended up getting my letter about 2 weeks later.

Differance between new and old with AAL
Old leafs.... Sucked bad, barely handled any weight, Grocery day for a single guy was making the bed sag.
Added Procomp 6'' with new shocks, AAL and 2 '' blocks, Didn't make much difference at all, could hold maybe 100-200lbs more before bed sagged again.
New leafs, Hold a whole lot more. Grocery day doesn't even show on my truck now. Getting a little lean now with my Trailer + 4runner on it about 6000lbs.

Ill try to find some photos I took to compare when i used to do a Water Run to Sams Club, used to fill the entire bed with arrow head water cases, about 740lbs-1100lbs

Weird how each dealer is different. Mine said Coorporate doesn't allow breaking apart the packs to add a leaf and ther be breaking federal law if they did. I had the choice of putting my old setup back together and sending me home with the uninstalled leaf packs or going with the blocks.

I had my leaf springs replaced under the recall. I'm really happy with how it turned out, no complaints. One thing I haven't noticed since the work was done... Axle wrap. I have driven Tacoma's since 98, so it's possible I just don't notice it at all anymore, but I really paid attention the last week or so, can't feel it.

Just got mine done today finally, almost 2 months to get parts in from inspection. Seems to sit alittle higher, Need to drive it more do see how it rides. Does not say much on receipt but if it got a alignment would it say on the Receipt i got? Only indicates the new leaf springs.

Had my recall performed yesterday and I'm happy, truck feels better. Took 4 days for the parts to come in after ordering and 3.5 hours to install. The drivers side is only 1/4" higher and the passengers side is 3/4" higher, all stock suspension.

So is the parts availability all over the place or are some dealers better than others at getting this done? I ask because it's been over two months waiting for parts at my local dealer. I'm starting to think my dealer is just damn incompetent and generally not caring about getting this done.

Dealer told me that it was going to take 5-10 days to get the springs in last March. My truck is still at the dealership; going to go pick it up tomorrow without the new leaf springs.
