That is all that really matters. Typical dealer talk to tell you that you paid what they did. My finance guy tried to tell me that they were losing money on mine. This was only after I told him to tell me what finance deals he had for me and skip all the other crap.

It may be true (only at the point of invoice), but cashing in on the dealer holdback, in the near future, and their volume discount, will shower their pockets.

    BEFORE T&L.......$35,041 for 2016 DCLB 4x4 TRD OFF-ROOOOAD. I think that's a smoking deal TBH.

packages include tow and all-weather mats. This did not include the HH package (I think that's the right term for the improved sound system). I think stock speakers sound great anyway, so I'm happy to save almost a couple thousand and not pay for that. The truck is badass.

I have the TRD sport dclb 4x4 with all weather floor mat, tint window and tow package. MSRP was 37500. They gave me $4400 off so I paid 33100 plus fee and tax. Local dealer here at Atlanta.

That's a decent price. Did you deal with an internet sales person at a volume dealer?

Yes I did. I went in to test drive a 2012 and she asked if I am interested in the 2016. I told her I couldn't afford one and she gave me 4000 off on her first try. Then I told her I'd think about it and I bought it the next day after a little back and forth. I even told her about Costco program and she showed me a Costco price sheet saying I am getting a way better deal than her Costco price.

I scored a deal like that with a volume Internet sales guy. He was just moving cars out. That was his job. Win-Win

Did you have a trade in? I did. A 2013 Toyota Avalon XLE premium. It had 40k miles on it and they gave me 18500 for it. I am pretty happy about the trade in since I only paid about 28 for it 3 years ago.

No trade in. I put down $10k and financed the rest with South East Toyota at 2.9%.

It is a good new car rate for a TRD.

I didn't think you would buy one with the posts and comments you had on the tranny, diff, etc, which btw were rather interesting/informative reads.

That's a good point, though, I learned all of the details from my my experience with my 2016 truck. I was not aware of the problems before I bought the truck. I made the assumption that Toyotas were trouble free vehicles. I really should have done a little research before I bought the truck. Don't get me wrong, the 2016 Tacoma is a wonderful truck. The comfort, ride quality, and off road ability is stellar. I just think I should have waited until 2018; when the wrinkles get ironed out.

I have heard 2017, now 2018, then probably 2019. Something better will always come out. IMO if they fix the diff, which I believe they will, they have no choice, there should be no issues IMO. There might not even be an issue with it overall, who knows. IMO the tranny is what it is. I would like to see what an 8 speed Colorado is like, or maybe not. However I would not buy one either way. Its just the way the gov regulations are driving the epa standards to. If there were none we would still be looking at 454's with no cats nor emissions junk.

I would bet my salary there will be hardware updates for the Aisin transmissions. It may not become public knowledge, but there will definitely be valve body updates. The Aisin AC60x is a decent transmission, and the TSB addressed engine management is actually quite nice for efficiency. I personally like it, but I drive like a grandpa anyway. The flair shifts are caused by mechanical flaws, most likely line pressure/valve body deficiencies, and I am sure the Mechanical Engineers at Toyota are well aware of this.

I have been reading your posts on that. This should be accessible through a tranny pan drop however is not minor by any means IMO when you go into a tranny. It seems the software is trying to mask it ?

You are right. A pan drop would allow you to test for leakdowns. You are also right in that the repair could be made with the pan drop as well. I could pull the valve body and fix it myself, but I shouldn't have to do this to a $36,000 car with less than 2k miles, and Toyota needs to correct the issue anyway. Believe it or not, I actually have a lot of respect for Toyota, but I think they are rushing things out the door faster than they can prove in the new tech. Now for the masking off part: the torque converters, on older cars, locked up at certain speeds after the up-shifting was done. The newer, fuel efficient designs lock and unlock, dynamically, all of the time. This is smart, as it wastes less energy in fluid friction losses in the TC. Some people think the torque converter, moving into and out of lockup, is causing the flairs. This is not the cause, as the transmission clutches control shift timing and clutch pressure. For example, in my 3-4 flair, There is not enough pressure on the engagement clutches of my 4th gear, and the transmission is taking too long to engage the gear. Thus, the engine has some extra time to rev up before engaging the 4th gear clutch. Hence, the flair. The mask off is this: when the transmission control unit (TCU) commands to up shift from 3-4, the ECM (engine command module) knows, and the ECM can use a PID control strategy to force the RPMs from rising for a predetermined period of time. As long as the period is longer than the delayed shift time, the flair goes away (or is masked off). Another easier way to mask off the leakdown is to command the line pressure higher, but this is a bad idea for a multitude of reasons, especially when simply sealing up the valve body, or replacing a solenoid can fix the leakdown.
