Update: I talked to the dealer again and now he is really wanting to help me out with this because he wants my loyalty and doesn't want to let customers down. Thursday I'm going to be taking it to the guy he uses for body repair who also patched a jeep frame the dealer had and discus what needs to be fixed and how much. The dealer had this done before and thinks it will be about $400 which we will split. Should be finished by monday. I feel much better about it all now.

Hope the best for ya. I still don't get how he can legally sell you that truck like that. That rust did not happen within the month or so you had it. If he really wants to help you he should take the truck back and refund you your money imo.

I don't know much about the integrity of a patched frame but I'd be wary of using it for any moderate to heavy off-roading...I don't know though, @Wyoming09 what do you think?

If it breaks it just needs to be fixed again.

Not being up close and personal I can`t really say .

I will say one I fixed a few years back for what ever reasons ( Alcohol may have played a big part)

Two brothers decided to have there own closed course soil bank fields race fence rows crossings The General Lee would have been proud !!

The repaired frame held up quite well more damage to the front suspension

Then a tree branch took out the radiator of course the idiot kept driving till the engine no longer ran.

This was the hills of Eastern Pa where stacking hay on a wagon takes some skill

This was the better part of 4 hours

It would not stop me from doing anything within reason that one would do with a new truck

If I or people I have worked with over the years had worked on it

    Workin' on it....
That amount of rust and damage was most certainly a pre-existing condition which should have been identified by the dealership on their intake inspection. Hope the body shop guy can come through or that the dealer extends a good discount on a trade or alternate purchase.

From reading another frame thread just today there was a fella tjat mentioned being able to buy frames. So i did a google.search for 01 frames and several dealers sites popped up tjat showed frames for around that price, i was suprised cause i too thougjt they wouldnt be available till the warranty replacements were done...

It could very well be they are on the website !!Just try and buy one.

Then it might be a little big for UPS to carry into the shop

Then it might be frames for like 2015 year Tacoma`s I am sure they are quite different just because the Trucks have grown.

Now things might have changed I have not asked in some time

As of the Last time I asked none were being sold for the first generations till the warranties were finished as they can not keep building them fast enough .

I know of quite a few used vehicle dealers that have no shop .

If a vehicle moves under it`s own power comes in with the correct stickers

It is quite common for most people to be completely clueless about the frame issues unless one is a die hard Toyota 4x4 person.

How many Threads of I am buying a First Generation Tacoma what should I look for posts???

The hard part would be proving the criminal intent

I am sure we all at one time or another did not beware enough when buying something

Lets all hope every thing works out best for Corey

Update: truck has been in the shop since last Thursday getting patched up. I should be picking it up tomorrow or Friday. Dealer is splitting 50/50 on the estimated 800-1000 for both sides to be patched all the way down.

Well....I do think they should have footed the whole bill but 50/50 is better than nothing. Good luck OP, hope everything is golden once you get the truck back

I'm in a similar situation. Mine gets fixed Monday. Toyota corporate management team is calling me end of next week. I couldn't wait, but have lots of pictures and documented at local Toyota dealer in case they go good for new frame swap, not holding my breath...

Looks good. Poke a screwdriver around behind front wheel on backside. Mine is bad there and good in the back.

Dam bro. That frame looks bad. Worse case scenario is to file an insurance claim (If you know what I mean )

when I spoke with the guy doing the work I asked him to clean up the cracks and holes the best he can so he probably didn't cut anything out because I didn't ask him to. Since this is from the inside out it's going to start rusting again eventually but with the new reinforcement it should last a long time before I have any issues. By then It will probably only used as a toy and not daily driver. When I pick it up I'll get as much details as I can about what all he did.

Good to hear things are moving along. Best of luck. And remember...worse case scenario is to just file an insurance claim on it. Your insurance may go up but at least you'll get paid and be able to get a better taco.
