285/70/17 on a 4cyl sr?

    No mines a v6 TRD off road 4wd. I haven't ran stock tires since the first week

    Yeah if I had a trd I wouldnt question it. Different motor and gearing. So I don't think I can / should run 285s

    So have a substantially larger monthly payment and go through the hassle of the dealership all just to run a slightly bigger tire on my daily? love the logic, to each his own!

    That's the stock tire size. You sure you don't mean 265/75/16?

    Nope, I used 265/70, I did that because I didn't want the odometer/speedometer to be off.

    My SR came stock with 245/75R16, and I upgraded to the "other" stock size, which- if I remember right- is for the TRD OR.

    Speedo on mine was slow with 265/70. Read accurate with 265/75. Now it's 5-6mph Of with 33's

    I also found my speedo to be more accurate after switching to 265/75/16 tires when calibrated against 2 GPS units and another vehicle's speedo. My next set will be 235/85/16's and they measure out to the same diameter whilst shedding some weight.
