How much improvement could I expect out of a new set of speakers if I leave everything else stock?

Honestly a new headunit makes way more of a difference, unless you plan on amplifying these new speakers.

I've heard the same thing. The stock head unit is very low powered and most guys recommend a new head unit over new speakers to start out.

I really want to keep the stock look. So, an amp would be a better start than new speakers?

Unless you've got the JBL package I'd change out the speakers first, the factory ones, at least on my '05, were pathetic. You'll very quickly realize the stock head unit needs help though. Plan on at least some new seperates in the front and an amp. A new head unit and a sub will make you even happier.

Do you have the standard stereo or JBL? The JBL setup already has an amplifier. As such, I assume you'd notice archive better improvement with the JBL head unit with speakers vs standard head unit with speakers. Right?

In the Audio section I have a build thread titled cleverly enough, "My Audio Build". Check it out as well as other threads in there. Its pretty amazing what you can do with the stock HU but you WILL need to amplify aftermarket speakers. I'd say, depends on how much you want to spend.

I'm 110% satisfied with my stereo and I kept the stock HU.

First thing I did when I got my truck was I put a set of alpine component speakers in, that made a world of difference to me. If you have the funds though I'd recommend doing a head unit and speakers. I have a Pioneer X-6800BT in a scoche kit running the alpines and my Rockford 10 inch shallow mount hooked through a kicker cx300.1 amp. Altogether the audio setup cost me about $500, not including GS installation for the head unit and speakers, installed the sub myself.

Stock head unit here with Alpine components front, basic Alpine rears, Alpine type R sub and ported box, with a 5 channel Alpine amp. Huge difference than stock and not just loudness. I'm not sure I'd gain all that much better sound with an aftermarket head. Here's the stock 6*9 magnet, pretty weak._20160617_085903.jpg

100% wrong. Stock head unit does a good job, if you actually took the stock speakers out you would be amazed..... the drivers are about the size of 5 quaters stacked. thats it. I replaced all my door speakers with nice pioneer 6x9's up front and 6.5 rounds in the back and seperate tweeters in the front. sound is TONS better and i still run the stock headunit.

Fog light mod, JBA LT headers, drop-in k&n filter, energy bushings, tried fold topper, 2nd air filter removed, all new stereo system minus subs, plastisol the wheels.
if you go Here it will take you to a page with the links for the headunit setup i bought which works great and i love it and the sound it produces.

Here is the link for the speakers i installed which were Rockford Fosgate as thats what i have used for years.

For me changing just the speakers in another car I had made a huge difference.

But the old speakers were blown, it was a convertible, and I replaced the headrest speakers. :D

I knew the magnets were way too small, but is the cage made of plastic? No wonder they sound like ass! How can you accurately and cleanly reproduce sound if the support structure is flexible?

I've done both speakers, and head unit at separate times. First speakers, then years later (last year) head unit. Hands down, most dramatic difference was when the speakers were replaced. And the speakers I went with would be considered mid to low end speakers.

I am in the process of changing things out too. First were the door woofers, as i have AC with no rear speakers, save for the trash in the headliner. i kept factory tweeters for now but switched to 6.5" infinity primus woofers i had already. Speakers alone made a world of a difference. If you have the money, do it ALL.

Yes it's all plastic. It is pretty rigid, but my components made me think I had never played the same disk before. So many sounds are just lost in the stock speaker's output.

Not 100 percent wrong actually. I swapped my jvc single din in and the volume increased substantially and tunability was in a surplus. I recently blew a door speaker so i added infinityreference 6.5 components and the change in quality was minimal, mostly just crisper. I can how ever amplify them later and thats when there will be a big difference for me. Add a new HU and your doors will light up.

while yes your loudness will increase its still gonna sound just as shitty with those ant size drivers on the junk stock speakers.

If you want to do a sound upgrade, do speakers first, then if you want go for the head unit.
