I would say it was worth it but expect to put aside a whole day to do both seats. Between removal, bringing them to the laundry mat and install took me about 6-7 hours. Pretty straightforward once you get into it but a complete and total pain in the whatsaahmahoozit!

It's amazing how clean they do come out. I put them in one of the big industrial washers. (It cost about $7.00 for one load) The whole cab of my truck smells like clean laundry!

 

Im sure the water is black after a few minutes on the agitate cycle.

 

I went to HD and bought some hog ring pliers and hog rings and never even used them. I probably used about 4 hog rings out of the bag. I just reused my old rings and used needle nosed pliers and a pair of channel locks. I'm sure if you ordered a pair specifically for car interior it would go a lot smoother.

Only reason my seat fabric is coming off is because it's getting replaced. And an upholstery shop can do that job. For now, some fabric cleaner, a brush and some towels will do the trick.

 

Fair to say I wouldn't want to do it again. Way to time consuming but if one wants them as clean as possible for the cheapest price you gotta put the time in.

 

or you could just detail them with the proper detail extractor and get it done in 30-40 minutes.

 

IMO, There is no way you'd get them as clean by putting them in an industrial size washer machine. Granted, I'm not looking forward to ever doing it again but it's my truck, I enjoy it and don't mind putting in that extra effort to make it that much better. Plus that machine would probably costly, other than the hog ring pliers and hog rings ( which I didn't need) it only cost my $7.00 for the huge washing machine. I'm happy with the end result and I learned something new.
