I keep hoping someone who got a mid-rise shows up wanting to do a fair trade haha. id be all over that. sadly, I don't have the most common color to match with. but yea I agree. more headroom would have been great!

Was looking at the midrises for sure, but my scouring of the internet suggest that it's not uncommon for midrises to cause a 1-2 mpg decrease, while many with cab high got a 1-2 mpg increase. That adds up for sure and I drive long distances regularly. I totally agree the midrise has better livability but I just can't justify it. After all, I've been backpacking for ages so this is going to seem like a cabin no matter what :)

I had a slight decrease in mpg with the normal cap. don't believe all that aerodynamics crap. people mostly imagine increases because as soon as they add something onto their truck they start driving differently to "maximize" mpg's anyways. don't not get what you want due to the mpg stuff. sure itll have some effect but nothing youd ever really care about after you realize you could really use the extra headroom!

If I had an AC or a reg cab I would have surely gotten the taller cap but with my DCLB it already looks like a land yacht. One decision I've made where aesthetics won out over practicality. ...

My first camper shell was a used cab height shell. It look great, but definitely was a wee bit claustrophobic. In April, I went with a mid-rise and haven't looked back.

I hear ya, I really do. Not just my truck though, so cab high may be the only option. Will be building a platform directly on top of wheel wells (as opposed to higher), so will have decent space. Certainly not a high shell size area, but I think it will suffice.

I wish I had gotten vented windoors to begin with on my leer 100xr. My sleeping setup has served me well so far in the pnw. I initially ran 2x4s across the bed then realized the fully deployed platform got in the way when I needed to haul my large coolers or dirty gear. So I made some mods to it and now I can run either half or full bed by moving one of the boards as you can see them stacked in the first picture. I'm usually the only one sleeping back there and having just half platform deployed makes it so much easier to get in and out of and haul gear. The bottom picture is the initial configuration showing the removable flip extensions I made for use with a dac truck tent like oldandslow posted above.

    1. Two vented windoors, the only way to go. Increased ventilation, and easy access from BOTH sides without opening the rear door.
    2. Leer 122 gives just enough headroom to sit up on the camping bed installed. See photo to the left of this post.
    3. Instead of an overhead cargo net, I have adapted a camp tent "hammock" gear net and I hang it front to back just above one of the windoors.
    4. Get a headliner in your Leer; condensation doesn't form easily on the fabric, just on the glass and metal surfaces. Also, you can use velcro to fasten light-weight items.
    5. Glad you like my hack at https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/leaky-leer-shell-windoors-hack.423744/ This also allows you to sleep with the wind doors open, even if it is raining (unless it is a driving rain, or there are mosquitoes!)

Got a Leer 100R with two vented-windoors :) + headliner and sliding front window. I know the midrise would be superior in some contexts, but it is what it is. Hopefully I get lucky with the mpg, and it should be better for transporting my canoe and ww raft. Shopped around dealers and found one I trust. I'll be there with the owner during install, and he knows I'll be living in pacNW with this shell and expect water tightness. I'm also adding a tailgate seal.

@jnossoff Do you use that cable on only one latch per windoor, or both? If the former, do you notice any torque in the window?

@gmajor Only one cable on one latch per windoor. No noticable torque.
