Get gears for the T100/8.4" Toyota diff.

Plenty of 5 luggers have installed 4.10s, also installed are 4.56s, 4.88s.

did you swap those gears into your 3rd? East coast gear supply said i needed the t100 3rd for it to work. They sent me one with 4.56 and it went right in. But they didn't want my 3rd as a core because they couldn't regear it.

Edit: I also had them install a truetrack lsd, so im not sure if that had any effect on it.

Beware of east coast gear supply! I have 31x10.5 and they reccomended the 4.56 third member and bought and installed it. It is TOO MUCH gear for highway use! It should have been a 4.10 set. They also will not help me out on this even after I offered to go there so they could change them out. I was told..."thats what I would have put in my truck". All said and done I spent $1000 with them for the wrong gears!

They offer a great service, its always good to do plenty of research before making such a large purchase. There are calculators and other people to ask.

I have 265/70/16 (30.8x10.8) and love the 56's. Although i always planned on going to a larger tire, i almost wish to go to a to 4.88 with 33's because the 4.56 puts the truck right into (edit: optimal torque) while a hwy speeds.

My truck being a 5 speed may play a factor in that though.

Okay I have a question because this is the issue I'm having. I'm trying to put 4.10s in my 5 lug but its not working!! It always comes out having waaaayyyy too much backlash. Too much to even measure. What brand did you use??

I had east coast gear supply send me a 3rd member already set up. I believe it's a 3rd out of a t100.. They didn't want my core. Said it didn't work with any of the gears they offered.

If you got gears for a 6 lug tacoma, they may not be compatible.. Its been years since I set up a 3rd member so I couldn't tell how to begin sorting out the backlash.

No. It looks like other guys have had success buying and installing gears for a t100. You can probably find them many other places.

I chose east coast because they have a good rep, had what I needed, and had the complete 3rd out to me in no time.

automatic can work the 4.10s from the t100 third member from what I have been told by other members. Automatics should have a 8.4 diff that fits the t100 8.4 4.10s.

manuals are a different story and need a whole new third member or something @HackD might know more.

I am still unclear on the process but I plan on going to 4.10 then upgrading my shocks and struts just costly. If mine work I will video tape the process for any of you fellow members with 2nd gen autos. Just not sure exactly what I am doing.

from what I know you have to switch out the pinon and the ring but I have zero confirmantion that they would fit and work correctly. seems to good to be true for 300 bucks.I feel like you need a whole new member or something maybe not with the auto?

Gone over the Top for a 5-lug..
Auto needs the relatively simple ring and pinion re-gear, the Standard requires the complete 3rd member change-out.

Both differentials are "8.4" Toyota type. The Standard differs in that the pinion is an orphan part.. no other Toyota product uses this gearing, and as such the 3rd member ring and pinion are matched to rest of the internals of that 3rd member only..
