    New member here...

Been using the website a few years now, its saved me many hours and dollars on assisting with repairs. I decided to go ahead and join!

I have a 95 Tacoma 3.4 V6 4X4. The odom. stopped working at 299999 miles and I've put maybe 5k on it since. The truck has been overly good to me since I've owned it, unfortunately I've not returned the favor as well as I should have. I just replaced the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets, shocks, fan clutch, new clutch and pressure plate. I'm interested in getting this truck caught back up maintenance wise and then start to restore the body... No rust, just little bumps and dents here and there and a new paint job eventually.

So, I'm currently going to start with replacing the fluids in the Tranny, transfer case, and both the diffs. I've been researching them on here, and it doesn't look to bad to do... But, I've had a check engine light come on the past 2 years in intervals. It will pop up and I'll reset the battery terminal and it won't come on again for 8 months or so. I'll go get the codes ran again tomorrow and post them here, but it was something along the lines of a O2 sensor. I did a little searching on here and found a thread where a guy replaced two of them... It didn't look bad at all. My question is... is there in fact only 2?

My other question is regarding the odometer stopping. I have no interest in trying to fix it myself since I think that probably means removing the whole dash? How much would this roughly cost to get fixed at a shop? Has anyone done this?

I'm excited to be apart of the site and wish I could say I'd help and contribute where I can... But I'm new to the whole mechanics thing, but am loving learning it! Look forward to learning as much as I can and seeing the awesome builds.

Thanks in advance for the help!

the odometer only go up to 299k on the older models if its digital and you can just replace it

Learn something new all the time, I did not know that. It's not digital. Anyway to reset it or something? Would like to keep track of mileage.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The sensor before the catalytic convertor is an AFR (Air/Fuel Ratio) sensor. The sensor behind the catalytic convertor is the O2 sensor.

Let us know what the codes are and we can help pinpoint the issue.

On the 95-98 (and some 99's) both of the O2 sensors are narrow band sensors and not the wide band AFR.
If I recall, the sensors are the same with the only difference being the length of the wire.

Code finally showed up again. PO420.

I did all my drive fluids and noticed what I think is one of the sensors. It's loose and has oil coming out around it on the tranny, I think?

You have a sensor leaking on the tranny?

That wouldn't pop the 420 code.

Pretty sure, I'm not the greatest mechanic so let me upload a picture tonight. Regardless, that code is on right now. Researching it leads to only a few things but the majorities seem to be to a O2 sensor.
