I just purchased a new 2017 automatic transmission Tacoma. 4 door off road edition. I am at 700 miles on the ODO and I've started to feel a difference in the shifting of my truck. When I first got the truck shifting, down and up, was ultra smooth but now it does not feel as smooth. It seems to "jolt" when up shifting. It's not a huge jolt or anything like that. Just feels more prominent then when I first started driving it. Also when I let off the gas going around 40mph it feels like I'm engine breaking. Things just don't feel as smooth anymore. I've read a lot about having the ATF checked and also about the truck learning my driving habits. Could this be what is happening? Please comment. Some advice on this would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Wouldn't a 2017 have these issues addressed already? Also it just seems odd that at first everything was smooth but now it doesn't feel the same.

I have a 2017 as well. I thought everything felt fine for the most part but I took it in to get the transmission fluid level checked and to apply the tsb. Fluid ended up being half a quart low and the truck drives like a new vehicle after the TSB. Shifting is so much smoother (feels like I'm driving with ECT without it actually being on). Call up your local dealer and go get it checked out.

Welcome to Tacoma ownership. The 2016/2017's still have problems the 2005's have. And the 2005-2015 aren't very different from the 2016/2017 when you crawl underneath them. Toyota isn't great at fixing "minor" issues.

The transmission shifting on the 3rd generation Tacomas is pretty well known.

I'll contact my dealer and get them to check the ATF and apply the TSB. Has anyone else had the TSB applied and noticed a significant difference?

I think I'm still going to get my ATF checked. I just remembet it being really smooth when I first drove it off the lot. Maybe reading all the TW posts about shifting issues has me thinking mine has a problem.
