I'd like to drive down to Baja sometime in the upcoming spring. Thinking of taking three or four weeks for the entire trip. Most likely would be just me and the dog. Planning to camp as much as possible, take the back/dirt roads, explore and take in the sights.

Anyone local (or on the way) interested in joining?

Looking to avoid overly busy time periods (ie. spring break), but am otherwise quite flexible.

Would've joined you if I didn't get married 5 years ago.

But sounds like a hell of a trip

I'm actually putting this idea on the back-burner for a little while. Crunched the numbers yesterday and it's looking like at least $2000 worth of gas to get there and back + a little adventuring. Too much for a month-long trip and only two weeks in Baja. Need to take ~1.5-2 months for this trip and spend at least a month in Baja to make the cost worthwhile. Now I'm thinking of going to either MOAB, Death Valley, 4 Corners, or something along those lines.

Tons of attractions with interesting histories down there.
My 2014 Utah/Nevada trip definitely left one of the strongest impressions in my life.
    Good luck!!

If you do go to Baja, there is a whole lot to see and do... I participate on the Baja Nomad forums, so I would recommend going there if you want to hear a zillion points of view! Many Canadians on Nomad, too.

If you don't need that much drama, then I will be happy to give you ideas on what can be seen or experienced in Baja! My website is designed to help anyone plan a Baja trip to see the back country, the history, or just a nice quiet beach: www.vivabaja.com

I recently returned from an 11 day tour where I showed 3 other Toyota 4x4s some of the best Baja has to offer. One of the people created this musical, 6+ minute You Tube from those 11 days:

That's fantastic! I'm going to see if I can pull off 1.5 months off work this time next year and head down there for a month!

Here is the web page for our big 2012 (15 day) trip to the tip of Baja: http://vivabaja.com/712/
It will be a great way to let you see some of the variety that can be found in Baja and that you can combine camping with motels or bed & breakfast (many are Canadian owned in Baja).

Looks awesome. Bookmarked for future re-reading. Going to make waiting to get down there that much harder!

Once you get the dust of Baja in your blood, it will infect you to the point you will always want to go back. Lot's of B.C. Canada folks go to B.C. Mexico!

Baja, it is so much more than just a peninsula!

Keep in mind, my Tacoma and I are available to take a passenger or lead other 4x4s on a Baja tour such as The Baja Extreme of last month. See that trip report on the Trip Reports forum here on TW.
