Either I never noticed it, or when I brought in my truck to Costco to have the tires replaced, the retaining pins of the wheel well mud shield fell out.

I couldn't manage to pull out any of them intact without destroying them. I bought these pins off Amazon but I can't manage to use a two-part pin since I can't access behind the metal body panel.

What is the correct retaining pin I should use? I can't use a two part pin due to limited access, so I was thinking of a one piece Christmas tree-like pin.

I just poped one of mine out and took it into the local parts store that has 100's or style and sizes of those things and matched it up the best I could. The ones I get fit tighter than factory.

For the record mine are 2 part. Not sure why you would need to access the back side to use a centre style push pin?

Get them at your (pick one>) friendly/favorite/trusted Toyota dealer. Better yet, call the dealer and get the part number, then buy them off E-bay. There's another thread on this a bit later that has the E-bay part URL.

often they are broken or missing on the driver's side
because many oil service people break them
as they reach thru the driver's side to reach thru there
    to service the oil filter.

I think the originals work/fit best (two piece pin)...
But they become brittle and snap occasionaly if removal attempt is made.
An NAPA auto parts store has something near the same that will work.
Likely will cost less then the factory originals would.

Probably could find some original/OEM type on ebay
for less then the cost of them at a dealership.

Bottom line... they're made of plastic
so one shouldn't expect they will live forever.

I have found that besides snapped clips
that the vinyl flap is occasionlly just pulled free
and the hole(s) in that can become fubar.

Hence finding something at NAPA that will work
    and have a larger head.

    Because I installed a 1" body lift...
I made my own replacement filler flaps
outta pond liner sold at home depot.
