Will definitely keep an eye out for bear, last thing I want to run into up there.
As for the owl call, am I better off buying a mouth/hand call or will an e-call work? Never used an owl call before so not sure how hard those are to learn but was pretty good with duck calls. Was also told to try crow and yote calls? Although I feel I should stay away from the yote calls because they feed on turkey and I don't want to scare the birds away.

Maybe we'll see each other up there. Going to be hitting up the sunrise bike park on Sunday with my buddies while I'm up there so will be doing most of my scouting on Saturday and early Monday.

Just a simple owl call will work. I have something like this.

    http://www.cabelas.com/product/H-S-...gclid=COadr6z-784CFRSEfgod1NQLjQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Just play with it, doesn't have to be perfect just as its loud and clear. If you can work a duck call this will be a breeze for you. Just a even blow, no fancy humming or diaphragm work like using a duck call. Took me about a year to learn to use a duck call, 15 mins for the owl call..

Just a simple shot hoot then follow up with a long hoooooooooooot and let it fade naturally. If you hav turkeys rooster anywhere within hearing distance of that hoot, they will sound off.... Provided they are talking...sometimes those gobblers just won't talk for shit no matter what.

Repeat and stalk quietly till you can get a location of where they are roasted. Then crawl back in that spot about a hour before legal and just listen, with any luck You'll hear they come out of the trees, then it box call time and be ready to either move if they are going away from you.. with any luck they will work towards your call and you'll be able to smack them on their lil red jelly heads... Make sure you bring binds so you can make sure they have beards or a bright red head.

Also don't over work the box call. If you it it and they gobble back, don't feel like you have to keep hitting it. Just stay quiet and make them search you out, tease them a bit.

    Good luck you guys!

Anyone get out today for a little shotgun therapy? Took some first time hunters out today and shot a couple limits, I somehow got stuck on bird cleaning duties. I need to adjust my coaching skills. Pew pew pew...

If anyone is in the market for some swaro optics, hold off till 10/1. It's their 25th anniversary and they will be having some sales, rumor is that it's 20% off their MAP pricing.

If anyone needs some glass, let me know and I'll hook you up.

Good looking out! I have been flirting with the idea of picking up a pair of 10's to go with my old school 15's.

Selling a Savage Axis 7mm-08. I bought this gun for my girlfriend a few years ago and she never shoots it. She always wants to shoot my 6.5x284 instead. Can't really blame her.

Less than 40 rounds down the barrel. It's a great lightweight gun. Perfect for women, kids or smaller stature guys. Comes with a low end Bushnell 3x9 scope. Pretty sure they are going for around $325- $350 new these days. Asking $275.

So I just saw the price list and WOW! There are some really decent deals. I ordered myself a X5 scope for demo purposes and saved about 800 off of retail. If any of you guys are looking for SLC binos or Z5/6/6i or X5/X5i scopes, you need to jump on this!

For those of you who shoot archery. There is is a new archery range opening up in Glendale Heroes Regional Park today. Has 16 lanes, and as far as I know it free to the public.

The girl drew a late rifle bull tag for Unit 27. Anyone have any experience with that unit? I know with rainfall/snow, the burn, and the high number of tags given out I'm going to have to hike in to get away from the road hunters/crowd. Might have some horses available to help pack out if she gets one down.

More or less I am looking for an area where Im not going to be stuck in one spot if its a goose egg, but I am able to get away from the crowds if that makes sense. I have a decent game plan and will continue to scout up until the hunt.

I've been in unit 27 for the last couple months and in here this week helping my brother and buddies on their elk hunt. We have 1 down, 3 more to go.

I get back into town on Friday and can tell you of some areas to focus on. The growth out here over the last year has been nuts, the aspen saplings are 10' tall now. It's been a tough hunt so far, elk are held up on high ridges or in deep canyons. I'm hoping the pressure will drop tomorrow as most rigs have pulled off the unit. More to come when I get back in Friday.
