I'm purchasing a shell today on Craigslist. The inside is currently just bare fiberglass. Is it worth my time to install a heat shield material before I put in a headliner material? I do live in the SW where it's 110 today.

Definitely worth it if you think you may ever want to camp out of it. The reflectix stuff (above) works well.

I think I'll give it a try. Still have to do the lights and maybe a fan.

How'd this work out for you? Just got a cap with bare fiberglass, and I like the insulation idea.

I haven't done anything with insulation yet. Got the interior lights installed, still deciding about a fan. Also have to mount the roof rack hopefully this weekend.

I suspect that it's not going to really help that much. The weather here is probably way to hot for it to help. The rest of the time the insulation isn't really needed. I'll probably do it still since it's not very expensive.

Yeah, just got a coat of paint done on the inside. It's a light tan color, but it was $2 at Home Depot off the returned-paint rack :D
I'm taking it for its first test run tonight with a chopped-down mattress, and I'll be playing around with reflectix and screen material. I'll report back with what works.

EDIT - eventually thinking about painting the inside black, and putting glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. Maybe. But that's a later problem.

whats the best adhesive to use? i imagine that it has to be able to handle some pretty high heat for use in summer

Personally I wouldn't paint the interior black. May be great for sleeping but I'd think it would just make the interior darker when you were doing anything else.

As for adhesives, it depends on what you're mounting and what you're mounting it to. Check out 3M's website for more details. (No affiliation, just good luck with their products)

This is true. I currently have a very dark grey carpet headliner, and I really wish it was a lighter color for when I am digging around at night.
