ok so i just upgraded from a 2008 tacoma to a 2015. i had removed my alpine double din and subs etc from the truck and was looking to put them back into the new truck. my 2015 came with the touchscreen nav unit. i did pull it out just to have a look at it, and it looked like there were quite a few different items plugged into the back of it. im wondering if it would be difficult to get my alpine fully connected in there with the backup cam and such. anyways im just wondering how many people out there upgrade the stereos in there 2015s? is it worth while to do? is it difficult?

I'm in the middle of doing it now, in my 2015. You will need more than you currently have, go to crutchfield.com and plug in your info to see what you need for the basics. The programmable intermediary controller to interpret your steering wheel controls and other factory options is quite a bit more involved that the simpler plug and play installs of the past as there are a lot of connections on the back of that head unit! I'm also integrating a forward nose down camera for front off road spotting. It is all more involved than I thought it would be, but I'm confident it will turn out so much better than stock. I hope to have a write-up posted in a week or two.

I definitely want to know how yours turns out. This entune BS toyota sold in my 2015 is useless. The traffic app is a hilarious joke.

That Nav unit is rather rare now, and worth quite a few dollars on TW if you ever decide to sell it.

I have the Pioneer 8200 nex headunit. Last night I put it to the test with the GPS. This unit has built in life time traffic. Worked great going to the AC/DC concert. I bypassed all the traffic jam on the highway.

Snag on the install with the interfacing programable adapter. Timeline will be delayed.

    heres my update:
i have the alpine X008U head unit 8" touchscreen with nav dvd etc. i purchased the alpine perfect fit mounting kit with the wiring harness. was very impressed with the kit, plug and play for the most part. only issues i had was the mount itself is just basic black plastic and my stock one was glossy metallic black, and i have yet to get the rear camera to work as well as only some of the steering wheel buttons work.

im currently working on adapting the stock shark fin antennas to work with the nav and satelite radio on my alpine. instead of using the magnet ones. i also would like to get the backup camera to work. the alpine harness has a wire that needs to be connected to a reverse signal. going to start there and then hopefully find the camera connector and convert it to an rca to plug in. possibly a harness i can buy?? anyways any info on the steering wheel buttons, rear camera or shark fin antenna would be great. thanks

also will be selling my factory nav unit soon. im located in vancouver canada if anyone is interested

I've temporarily swapped my stock deck back. Need to email support as I know the kit/harness I have is not compatible with the OEM stereo I have.

From what I can tell it is the top unplugged connector in this picture with I think 4 wires going to it. Red, black, white and shielded. But I have not confirmed that.

ive done a bit of searching and i came to the conclusion that connector is for the microphone in the overhead console. im thinking its in the big connector on the left. in my alpine harness theres only about 6 wires coming out, but on the truck side its pretty much full. im sure i could probably get my reverse signal from there too just have to figure out the wiring

My wiring instructions say it is from the top connector, and the connector needs to be removed and hard wired. However, they also do not account for the unplugged connector on the bottom full of wires. So something isn't right at all.

ya thats definatly not for this connector. looks like the wires coming from it are for the steering controls. i found the reverse on there pretty quick. im guessing the rest is for the reverse cam and the other steering controls

Here maybe this pic will help you out, the plug with only 4 wires in it is your backup camera plug and this other plug 28 pin is steering wheel control/ mic plug. It has the numbers showing which is for mic and all I know that I can add to it is #2 on it is the reverse trigger wireIMG_0439.jpg
