I have a 2015 tarpon 140 and man I love this thing. You'll enjoy it.

I don't know if I shared here, I guess I didn't but took it out on the Colorado, got to love the hill country.

    As a new kayaker, I have a question -

How important are the bow and stern tie downs? Are 2 straps over the middle (at the racks) not sufficient?

I just use a standard ladder rack and 1 ratchet strap at each end of the bed. Good for 65 mph, but I can see that a bow and stern tie down might be a good idea.0423160846.jpg

I think they're very important especially with longer boats at highway speeds. If you're just jetting across town to dump your 12' boat in, they're probably not going to matter. If you're cruising at 70mph with a crosswind you're going to need them. It's cheap insurance to protect your boat, you truck and possibly the vehicles and well-being of the people behind you.

Thanks. Both belong to The Girl, I only get to use one. The yellow is her old one, a Necky Manitou. She says its a barge but it's fine for my basic skillset. The multi-color one is her new boat, a Dagger Alchemy 14 which is more agile and playful.

Finally got our trailer on the road (waiting for a plate from the state). These are FeelFree Lure 11.5 kayaks. They weight a shit-ton and hence, the trailer. It was a 'kit' and went together rather easily. Kinda a pain in the butt to wait for a plate (PA process stinks) - but it only took about 3 weeks versus the 90 days they quoted us.

Got my Feel Free Lure 11.5 wet for the first time today. I'm able to get it in the bed w/o too much problem. Absolutely love the built in wheel in the keel for portage. The lake was pretty calm and I found I preferred not to use the rudder. It seemed faster with the rudder up and I had no problem with tracking.

    Nice!! Gotta love new toys!!
We don't have rudders - not sure we'll need them. We do have anchor & anchor trolley. The wheel is awesome and that adjustable seat is very cool!

thanks for the help. I wish I had the same pricing up here as you guys do in the states. I wasn't expecting to be paying $450 for just the Thule roof racks, and then still have to add some saddles or J-bars on top of that.
I guess I am still too much of a cheapskate.

image.jpg Some winter Buena Vista yakinimage.jpgBow lines and stern lines are unnecessary. These two boats made it from Colorado to Georgia with two 20ft nrs cam straps. 80+ mph. I'll even do some light wheelin. Not ratchet straps. Use the extra lines if it makes you happy. Two different boats in Arizona. Yakima kayak stackers are bomber

Excellent news: I got my kayak back! It was stolen 2 months ago and i had put a sign up where it got stolen. I get a call last saturday from somebody jogging along the LA river who saw my sign and my boat. Whoever stole it dragged it all over cause now its got deep scratches, and the skeg is broken. But anyway, today i went to a nearby lake and had a great paddle, nice to be reunited.
