So I have been looking to get a more aggressive tire for my truck since day one. My truck originally came with the P265-65-17 Dungloop Grandshits. The only good thing these tires were good at was being quiet and light. (36lbs I believe)
They sucked in snow, terrible in rain once I hit about 75% tread on them and rolled in turns terribly. They also wore like hell too. Definitely a limiting factor on a truck like this.

Now that my rant is over....
I was originally in the market for a set of Ko2's but they were too much $$$ to justify when most of my driving is on the street. Then I saw the falken wildpeak AT3w that just came out and fell in love....until I saw how much each tire weighed(47.5lbs) even in P metric. (Ko2's are about 46 in C load)

Then one of my buddies told me to look at the Hankook dynapro atms, and I was a little bit hesitant at first since I typically see hankooks on elantras running on 3 cylinders. I read and read reviews and all seemed well. They even weighed 38lbs in P metric in one size bigger than stock!

So I ended up buying them since discount tire wasrunning some great rebates in the beginning of September.( Winter hooning was around the corner as well)

    Here's what I paid:
$568 original list price at DT size:p-265-70-17

$518 matched price from simple tire

    $518
    -$50 hankook rebate
    -$50 tread lightly rebate
    -$25 Labor Day rebate
    +$100 install
    -$300 sold shitty dungloops
    Total: $193 for a new set of tires-cheaper than 1 ko2 :D

    My review:
Granted, I have only had them for about 1,500 miles now. I can definitely say that the ride is better, the truck doesn't wallow around corners, cuts through puddles much much easier( less hydroplaning).
They have been slightly louder than stock...and I mean marginally, maybe 5-10% louder.
    MPG's stayed the same.
So far they have much better road manners than the dunlops as far as handling and ride(they are also one size larger).
One thing that was a little sketchy about these tires was that they had to use a shit ton of wheel weights to balance these mofo's, but they still do ride very smooth.

I can't say much about snow performance yet but a bunch of my buddies who have them, said they are exceptional.

I am very very happy with my purchase. I hope to see that they retain their performance throughout their life.

    Now pictures :)

I have them on my truck and they are ok in the snow, they suck in the mud and are decent on wet roads, gravel roads are terrible slide all over the place. I have duratracs on order we have just got are 1st snow although it will be gone tomorrow.

Duratracs were also a very appealing tire, everyone I know who has them only say good things about them.

Those look good, I see you still have the stock mud flaps and went up +1 tire size. Any rubbing?

That's just laziness on the part of the installer/balance tech.

My RT03's were similarly imbalanced, requiring excessive weights, initially...
But I wasn't satisfied with that feeble attempt.
And so... I requested that the tech partially dismount the offending tire(s)
and rotate them on the wheels maybe 90* or 180*
and then they balanced up acceptably, on round 2, requiring less weight.

I also made them purchase the proper backing plate
so these wheels could be spin balanced lug centric*
as all 1st gen Tacoma should be.

    * I believe '05 ^ are hub centric

    Bottom line: ...time is money

so the faster they get your money and get rid of you...
    the more profit they make.

So if ya expect to hold a tech more responsible for an proper install...
you'll possibly have to pay more or at least request that they do a better service.

I didn't buy my tires from my installer, so I had to pony up for the install separately.
I didn't have to pay more then was originally agreed upon to net satisfaction.

But I needed stand there and watch, checking their work...
Then made them do it over, until they got it right.

Helps if you know more then the tech knows ;)

I'm sure they were pleased when I finally announced my satisfaction
and drove away from their place of business ! Lol

Zero rubbing... going one size up was definitely worth it. Speedo is dead on and the truck definitely looks more proportional.

I told them to road force balance them which would include the steps you just mentioned. However, I thought that was strictly to match the low spot on the tire and match the high spot on the rim. Either way they're very smooth on the highway....let's just hope I don't loose any of those sticky weights.

Same tires I got 2 years ago. I removed my front mud flaps cause they look kinda lame.

Best set of tires ive ever bought on a vehicle from a value standpoint

I have them about 8k on them. They are ok. Definitely louder than my stock tires and the revo2's I had on before these. These are the best tire of the 3 bit nothing too special. They seem to be wearing well, in snow last year they did pretty well.

I've had them on 3 different Tacomas, and will do it again someday. They performed very well in New England snow. The only time I slid was on glare ice, and really, only studs are gonna help you there.

I have almost 30k on my set. For the most part I'm happy with them, love the looks, but traction on wet roads could be a bit better. Thats just my opinion based on the time I have had with them.

I went through 6 of these in 7 months with 15 trips to the tire shop for problems.

Worst tire I have ever owned. In trying to find a solution I spoke with 4 other local tire shops and they all said the same thing - Hankook's are low quality truck tires, and we don't sell them and won't order them.

Hope you have better luck than I did. I have Cooper ATPs now, which I love but miss the better looking sidewall of the Hankook. Wish they'd worked for me.

Wow I am on my second set. 1st set got 52000 miles out of them and when changed out still had 4/32 tread left. with 265/70/16. Now with new rims Ballistic Jesters 16x8 and 265/75/16 and bilsteins 5100 set at 1.75 a little rub but no deal breaker. Forgot I feel they are great in snow and all around. Ok I know I will catch some flack. But I do drive a full size tractor trailer for a living up and down mountains in WNC and I live out 20 miles in what most people call way out out there. So I'm should know something about keeping traction.

I discourage anyone from doing this. I'm a tech at a shop. I've had a couple people do this and have seen it happen to other techs many times. When customers are in the shop hovering over a tech's shoulders, our attention is now split with a guy thinking he knows your job better than you. If he did know how to do your job he sure wouldn't be paying you to do it. Unless there is some oddball aftermarket special request situation going on, the customer does not know more than the tech. Maybe the reason I've never heard of this happening is because I work in a fairly high caliber shop, who knows.

    End of rant.

That being said, your case does sound justified. I bet the guy only had a few days of training, or maybe he was new.

I'm very happy with my Dynapros. They've been wearing well, provide good traction on most surfaces, and have held a balance without a problem.

Anyone who says they are "exceptional" on snow, though, has never had a dedicated snow tire. They're not even close to my very inexpensive Yokohama snows.

Mine have been awesome with traction in wet or dry conditions. I live in Texas so don't have to worry about the snow traction stuff.

I do recommend airing them up on the high end of their psi recommendation range. I know discount tire airs them up to 32-33psi. I air them to 38psi. I know when they were at lower psi, my mph sucked.

i have about 30k on my dynapros and they have worn pretty well. I have done many 100s of miles in the desert and sand dunes and rocky fire roads on them n never had an issue.

They do OK in the snow but compared to a set of Michline MS2's that have like 3x the siping ice performance is just OK.

they are a FUCK TON better than the rugged fails that came on my truck!
