I have Iron X and plan on using it on my wheels before I coat them with McKee's wheel coating. If I use Iron X do I need to use an actual wheel cleaner on them also?

Only thing I would do is maybe go over it with your regular car soap.

Nah, they'll essentially accomplish the same thing. Like Ace said, just wash it well afterwards to make sure all the chemicals are removed.

    It never efffing ends.....
I recently painted my stock sport wheels and just cleaned with soap, then wiped down with alcohol. I painted them with 3 coats of Krylon high heat exterior paint and 3 coats of Krylon clear coat. They look amazing and the paint has held up well and seems really durable.

If they're painted wheels like mine are I use a soft bristle almost like a paint brush and use sonax wheel cleaner plus and agitate it with the brush and then wash.

Ok, I used all the Iron X on my wife's RAV4, so would you all recommend a dedicated wheel cleaner or get more Iron X?

So I'm out of Iron X, can I use Simple Green APC on the wheels or is there a dedicated wheel cleaner I could get locally like Autozone?

You may not even need a wheel cleaner. I would only go that route if there is brake dust and build up on the wheels.

IronX is only used to dissolve iron particles and will not "clean" the surface like standard wheel cleaners. As others have suggested, normal car washing soap will do the trick, unless you would like something tailored specifically to wheels. Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus, on the other hand, does contain cleaning agents that will aid in the removal of dirt and debris.

Been detailing cars for a long time, and there are many products on the market that are too specific and not economical. Use good old Simple Green without much dilution. Agitate thoroughly with a solvent brush, followed by fresh water rinse. Compressed air is helpful to remove deeply seated water (around tire bead, etc.) so as to provide a completely dry surface for your wheel coating.

Hey, FYI I recently picked up the McKee's wheel cleaner. It works very well. I did some wheels on 2012 Nissan Maxima last week that had never been cleaned. Not once. And the McKee's cleaned them up with minimal effort. I actually used a $1 soft sponge from the dollar store and that was all I needed. I did let it soak for about 10 mins per Tire. I have to say- I've been pleasantly surprised by all the McKee's stuff I've tried. I definitely recommend the wheel cleaner.

I use both an iron remover and a wheel cleaner when I do mine.

First of all the Iron Remover I use smells horrible, second I feel you can't be too careful to remove brake dust. Shit is corrosive and if you have nice wheels you need to get it off. Removing the wheel being the most ideal.
