Not sure if anyone has posted on this, and honestly anytime I search specific things on here it seems to give you results not regarding search. Anyway. I can be parked driving forward at parking lot speeds and just barely apply pressure to the brake pedal hearing a click. It happens in drive and reverse. Only at low speeds I'd say no more then 15 mph.. I'm actually taking my truck in next week since my maintenance light came on at 41K. Just figured I'd pick some brains so I don't freak out till I go to Toyota or if its something a semi experienced mechanically inclined person can fix. Thanks for any info.

It's pad slap and it happens on most of our trucks, it's normal.

Normal. has to do with a wire clip in the brake assembly. Does not require repair. Does it "reset" itself when you shift from D to R? Mine does same thing, searched on here and saved myself a trip to the shop.

Is there a way to dampen the pad slip sound? @Paul123

It seems to reset it's self. @IronPeak4x4

    Also thank you.

I'll leave this up to others, my research ended when I discovered that it's no big deal. It is loud however and I've gotten a few comments when pulling into a friends house and doing a two point while parking. ...

Not that I know of. A lot of people mention the sound (myself included) and a lot of people know what it is, but there doesn't seem to be definite fix for it. It's just slack in the pads that you can hear when you depress the pedal. I think it's just best to ignore the sound.

Yeup. I can calm them down about 75%. Never get rid of it completly. The good news is if they click, they aren't seized.

Common. It's the pads reseating themselves as you switch between D and R.

Thanks everyone. My neighbor/coworker saw my post. We lifted the front end, took the wheels off, and that pin definitely has some play so the pad just rocks back and forth a little. Appreciate the feed back. I guess I should have taken photos for others that read this post to give them the detailed picture. Maybe when I replace my wheels/tires soon I'll do that for future reference. Now it's time to research a suspension lift, wheels, and tires.

I see it as a good thing since it means the pads aren't riding on the rotor. The taco isn't the only toyota (or vehicle for that matter) that this occurs in.

I added a second wire rattle spring to each side when I did my front brakes last year, and applied silicone brake grease on the stainless shims on the backs of the pads - did not hear the click once in a whole year after that.

its a Toyota truck and that's all the modifications needed
this, I did the same, the pads wear down and then you get the click noise I added a rattle spring to the top pin helps there is a thread on doing it if you search

    If its from the rear:
Im pretty sure its the brake shoes shifting and hitting the inside of the brake drum. Try some anti-seize at the contact point. I instructed the dealer to do this when they checked my brakes, the click has gone away.

seems like a lot of different vehicles have brake pad slack, causing various rattling and clicking. My 04 chevy did it. My 79 Camaro does it. My 84 chevy does it. I was able to fix my 04 by bending some little retaining clips or something.. haven't messed with the Tacoma yet
