I didn't honestly get to hike/explore nearly as much as I wanted to (did maybe 12-14 miles total plus a lot of stuff off the road), but I now have ideas for what I want to do for next time!

Great photos @Both Tacos ! Glad to meet you and your crew!
I can almost name each location of your shots! Hope you came back, let's get some hiking done.

One of your friends was going to go all the way across Tioga Rd. Did he go? I'd love to know his reaction and see some photos!

No, he didn't unfortunately. A truck tipped over on Big Oak Flat Rd that morning and it was closed for a long time. They didn't want to take the long detour like we did so they stayed in the valley and went up glacier point and looked at some other stuff there.

Ahh. That was that same morning. Gotcha. I got the text alert for that incident after I was on the road headed to the airport.
Looks like y'all had a great trip even so short. Heck, I've been away for a week now and miss it dearly!

I got bored and made a slideshow video out of the pictures from my Mt. Whitney trip. I know, I know... everyone hates watching other people's slideshows. But if you want to see what the southern ~40 miles of the JMT and what Mt. Whitney looks like to climb it from the west side, I encourage you to watch. Day 1 is going over Kearsarge Pass from Onion Valley, and we joined the actual JMT that afternoon at first camp. It's in exact sequential order, and individual days are marked during the show. Enjoy, if you wish.

Still in Indy! I literally just got off the plane in San Diego after house sitting for 10 days. Home less than 72 hours and I hit the road headed east!

Going to Huntsville State Park tomorrow to take a little training hike in preparation for my Grand Canyon trip in 4 weeks. Bought a little daypack and camera clip off of Amazon. I'm anxious to see how they work. It'll also be my first chance to use my trekking poles that I made from an old camera tripod.

Might as well register for Expo East as you'll Be very close while you are at Indy. The offer to buy supper still stands if you come through the St. Louis area.

I just might take you up on that! I'll travel I70 both directions. Don't know yet if east or west bound will be more convenient yet for me. (likely west)

I highly suggest checking out the eastern Sierra/395 corridor!

I'll be relegated to short ish driving trips in till next March or April probably.

Next will be a Big Bend trip in maybe November.

I'm totally Jonesing and already planning upgrades to gear and refining my itinerary for next year's JMT adventure. This one will likely be solo, as my wife doesn't want to put on more miles than we did this year. So, it would be my first solo thru-hike which I'm pretty excited about. Being on my own schedule, going at my own pace,, solitude for 2 weeks in the Sierras, etc. And, not carrying a 4# tent for 2 but going with a 2# tent for 1. Less work and more miles per day, stopping to fish wherever I feel like. Is it summer 2017 yet?

Husband and I are planning a JMT thru next summer. From Lyell/Tuolumne southbound.

Mine will be NOBO from Onion Valley to Happy Isles (permits allowing). I'd be redoing the Tuolumne to Red's Meadow route we did last year, just NOBO instead of SOBO. Redoing 28 miles won't matter in the grand scheme of a 185 mile trek. MTR and either Red's or Tuolumne for resupply. I'm not doing Whitney from the eastern approach nor am I doing Forester again!

Nice. Yeah, screw that first leg from Happy Isles. Go back and do that leg alone as a formality to check the box. Or just put your first gear cache at Tuolumne. LOL. But I suppose you may have been able to get a permit only starting at TM?
