I've just about worn out my 2007 XTerra Off road, looking for a great, OR-capable midsize truck as replacement, and I think I've narrowed it down to a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road. Looking for general direction. Will be daily driver, as well as hunting/fishing/camping ride. Do some light towing(at or under 5000 lbs.), so will probably get auto tranny/ tow package, but no more. No extreme off road, at least not on purpose, but our mountain property has some fairly hairy ascents. Look forward to learning from you guys! JB

    Welcome to TW neighbor!

Check out the southeast forum, we've got a couple regional threads going.

Also check out the 3rd gen section, it seems these new trucks are havering some issues.

Thanks, nagorb. My alma mater is Texas A&M; hope that won't mess us up...:) I'm a vet, and I regularly refer clients to Auburn vet school, if that counts fo anything!
Seriously, I'm a newbie to Toyota, and just need help making the right choices in truck , tires, accessories, etc.

    Thanks, JB

Haha we are enemies then! While I support AU I'm not invested like some, moved here a year ago.

Feel free to ask any questions, I don't know much about the 3rd gens, just what I've seen here and it seems to be a lot of negative. If I was looking for a newer truck, I'd go with a 14 or 15.

Welcome, and I agree with him. I drove the 15 and 16, and the 15 had a nicer ride - if you are anywhere with some hills, the 3rd gen transmission is gonna drive you crazy. With that and some of the issues they've been having, I went with a 15.
