I bought a 16' limited and paid Louisiana's tax then tags, traded it in 3 months later and in tax I only owed the difference in the price of the 17' Pro which came out to about $800. Hopefully for you it works the same in Commiefornia...but I doubt it.

I know. But my fault. First world problems, really. It's an incredibly nice truck. Nicest I've ever owned. And I think I might need to let it go. Really would love that 4x4 tho....

    this

I'd trade it in in a heart beat.
Mind you I wouldn't let the dealer try and sell me on something I dont want. Mind you I'm a dick, when I went to the dealer last looking at them the first thing I told the sales rep was "I know what truck I want if you're going to try and sell me something else I'll save you the time and leave now."

If it's not what you want get rid of it, I did. You only live once.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

He's joking. He's referring to everyone constantly talking shit about the 3rd gen on this board.

Does your state have a cooling off period? Some dealerships and companies have a period of time where you can take the vehicle back without penalty. If none of this is available to you, it is a lesson learned.

I went back to a 4WD because I was tired of my 2WD Tundra and the fact I avoided circumstances because I didn't have 4WD. Granted that 2WD Tundra is much heavier but being at the deer camp, public land hunt or kayak fishing lends itself to spots you don't want to worry about how I'm getting out. What would you look at if you wait a year and catch the last of the 2017 as the 2018 comes out. Might be a better deal then if you can keep it and catch the last one on the lot. Makes for a good deal but not so much on the color options.

Its hard for me to understand you wanted a 4x4 and bought a 4x2. The salesman talked you into it. There isn't a salesman alive who could talk me into a 4x2 when i wanted a 4x4.

What you have already done is sunk cost. Its just emotional and you should try to ignore it. What matters is the trade-off looking forward, i.e. whether or not it is worth $X to you to trade for a 4x4, and whether or not you can afford it.

Whatever you do, make SURE you don't make the same mistake twice. Don't trade your 4x2 OR for a 4x4 SR5, then come back to us asking whether you should trade in the 4x4 SR5 for an OR because you decided you really want a rear locker.

Lol yeah I had a salesman that was riding with me during a 3rd gen test drive (TRD Sport 4x2) who kept talking about how great the 4x4 system was... I let him talk...then he proceeds to push the traction control button and tells me (ok let's try out the 4 wheel drive)..:rofl: I wanted to laugh in his face but I remained calm and told him that we were in a 2 wheel drive. :anonymous:

Honestly, occasionally I have a little bit of regret not buying 4x4, not because I need it or have ever remotely needed it, or have avoided certain places because I don't have it....I just feel like I *should* have it....and for me thats not enough justification to have 4x4. Ive only used the rear locker I do have maybe 2-3 times.

I didn't realize the Sport and OffRoad came in 4x2. OP, if you traded you think you would be happy in any other trim than the OR now that you been in it? If I had been riding in the OR and just missed the 4x4, I'm not sure I would be happy with anything else unless go up to the limited or pro, well me the pro, couldn't see myself ever getting the limited. All that said, I can't wait for my sport 4x4 to get built.

Absolutely, this vehicle is probably almost worse than a Hindenburg/Pinto/Vega/Corvair love child. How can anyone say anything positive about a 3rd Gen?

For the record mine now has 15K miles with NO issues. :amen:

Ok first post here. A few years ago, I bought the TRD - Sport 4x2. I thought it was 4x4, was a little bummed that it was not what I thought it was, ok I was a little stupid. I loved that truck, it was a great truck and did everything that I wanted very well. A few days ago I upgraded to a 2017 TRD - Off Road 4x4. I had a little buyers remorse because I loved my last truck and it was almost paid off. Well the more I learn about my new one, the more I love it. Basically bottom line is they are both darn good trucks.

I dont use 4x4 nearly as much as some on this forum.

I got it because I wanted to have the option, but I've only needed it once (on the 3rd day after I bought it when we got hit with a blizzard). Even then, I was just itching for reasons to go play in the snow. I've gone out to use it just to keep everything lubed, but I don't use it almost ever. I think I did the math in another thread: about 0.7% of my miles are 4x4 miles--all but 15 were me just using it to use it.
