Bilstein 5100 vs 5160 ride quality

    So my question is...are the 5160 going to ride better than the 5100 during highway commuting and rough city potholes and such? I do not offroad but I am looking to made my truck handle and ride better (small bumper sensitivity at low to medium speeds leaves a lot to be desired and on rough highways at about 50 I feel it is cumbersome to keep it controllable). My truck is the family hauler, commuter, hunting truck and tow vehicle so ride quality is my biggest concern. I tried researching the difference in valving but haven't been able to get a concrete answer. I know the 5160 will handle shock fade better but is it even possible to experience shock fade on city streets?? And if so, is it worth the extra coin for the better ride? I am putting the 6112 up front at the lowest setting and once my 265/70r17's wear out I am going back to stock tires. I realize the ride is going to firm the suspension up by going non OEM but I want better handling and rough road damping. Thanks...

    Your benefit for the 5160 is going to be remote resis, allowing greater fluid volume for heat dissapacion and extended droop. Both shocks are digressively valved. For commuting I don't see it making a worthwhile difference. However, for my OCD self, I like the matched set vs mix/match front and rear. I'm running the TRD Baja 6112 and 5160s.

    Did you end up going this route? Curious how it turned out. I am looking at upgrading to the 6112s soon and wondering how they ride on the road. What'd you end up with in the rear and how's it ride?

    I don't know if it applies to the Tacoma models but somebody on the 4Runner forum posted a while back that the 5100 has more compression and less rebound damping. Supposedly the numbers they posted came straight from Bilstein. I like the ride of my 5160s a lot more than my 5100s but I'm also on the second notch with stock coils on my 5100s.

    The only times I've taken them offroad the 5100s got too hot to touch and the 5160s were barely above ambient temp. Some of that is the fronts are working harder but I can definitely see the 5100s getting taxed with moderate use.
